I can’t say enough about the addition of the Yamaha T8 kicker I now have on my 18′ Lund. It got an extended workout last week and performed without a miss. Quiet , clean and very efficient on gas. The power trim/tilt and electric start are a real luxury. I can deploy this motor and have it running in seconds. It has really changed my approach to fishing , either trolling or positioning.
I too have one, and wanted to post an option that some dealers don’t think is possible. I have a Lund Fisherman, pre-rigged for Yamaha engines, so there is a control box built into the sidewall behind the main engine controls and I wanted to use that “at times” when longlining at night etc. Some dealers told me there was no way to attach those control cables to this engine (the T8 with tiller handle) however…Destry, at Lacannes in Fairbault, did some digging for me and ordered a “kit” from Yamaha that bolted right on………so now I can either use the kicker with tiller from the back OR pop on the cables and run it from the front…a great setup for me and just what I wanted. Yes, I still start it at the engine and do not have a keyswitch on the dash.
