Man has the pike bite been good on the river this fall. Seems like every time Hougie and I fished together down on pool 8 we’d take 30 minutes or an hour to go throwing rattle traps for pike and success wasn’t instantaneous, but it was close! Here’s a pic of a couple dandies we caught about 10 minutes apart from each other back in late September.

The key to finding these fish was to look for deep rip rap, the base of the rip rap often terminated in 15+ feet, and then to cast 1/2 ounce traps parallel to the shoreline and retrieve nice and slow.

Anyone been doing anything on the pike on the Mississippi River lately? I haven’t had a chance to give it a going over myself but I pretty sure the bite should be good.

Holler at me if you’ve been CPR’ ing some pike lately!

Juda H. Priest!! Nice river tigers. Spent many a day chasin’ those things around the Trempealeau area. Beetle spins, daredevles, shad raps, Moss Boss, didn’t matter. When the wolves are on the feed it’s dynamite. Excellent fish. Brings back fond memories of chasin the Pike on the ‘Sip.

Those were some dandies and they fought like heck! Want to see some MONSTER pike photos? Hop on over to http://www.fishthelake.com and browse through some of the pics being posted over there. My boat had 4 pike from 18-21 lb’s at night on Mille Lacs and Tuck had a big one as well.

    Awesome fish!

I caught a 36 incher on the Croix yesterday afternoon. I fished for them with heavy gear for about an hour with no luck. I switched to light gear and started fishing for smallies. First I got an 18 inch walleye then the northern. Amazing fight on 6′ ml rod with 8 lb test. I had to chase him with the trolling motor to keep from getting spooled. I know it was a fluke to land him. I just lucked out and hooked him on the outer lip. Biggest pike of my life. I can’t wait to go “River Tiger” hunting again soon! The fish was quickly released.
