It looks as if there is more heavy rain this morning in SW Minnesota, western Wisconsin and NE Iowa precisely where it is not needed. The river at DBQ has dropped 2 feet from the crest and the flow is once again under 100,000 cfs meaning the river is fishable but there is still much debris in the water. Water clarity was about 1 ft on Saturday which was much better than I thought it would be.
This mornings rains appear to be very heavy and very slow moving which is not a good thing when it comes to the river. Today\\\\\\\’s heavy rains along with those that are predicted to fall in the next 36 hours look to reinforce the high water levels and flow. The MWC championship is being held in DBQ in less than 2 weeks and unless we get a substantial string of dry days from here north I can see a really low weight winning the tournament. Springtime high water is predictable around here so most locals know where to find numbers of walleye in high water conditions. However high water in early September, when the walleye normally more difficult to locate, could lead to lots of goose eggs at the weigh ins. I know a couple guides that have turned down guide jobs for MWC fishermen at least until the river gets down to a fishable level. I know I\\\\\\\’d have difficulty putting people on fish with the river conditions the way they are right now and with the heavy rains it looks like these conditions will continue for a while to come.
