Thanks again Ted and do keep us informed…we have at least 10 Merchant Marine Officers on staff that I can think of and I’m sure many more viewers.
Here’s some good info (although this is not required…yet.)
Quote:
Who must get a TWIC?
An estimated 750,000 individuals will be required to obtain a TWIC. This includes Coast Guard-credentialed merchant mariners, port facility employees, longshoremen, truck drivers, and others requiring unescorted access to secure areas of maritime facilities and vessels regulated by the Maritime Transportation Security Act.
For more info check out TWIC FAQ’s<<
PS I found the info on the lights exactly where you told me to look.
Dayboards (I call them day markers) may or may not be lit. If they are lit, they will have a green or white light and on the nun side (right side going up stream) red or white light. The nun side will always have two flashes and the green- can side will have a single flash.
The square green day board with a single flashing green light…that I was looking at signified the center of the river channel.
I also found out the checkered diamond shaped day boards signafy the crossing of the river channel from one side to the other.
I ‘spose this might be a little droll for the daytime boater…but seeing these markers every night peaked an interest…I might need to fish more…
