Mike C and myself hit the water after work around 4:30pm Wednesday night to drift for Channel Cats. To waist some time before the evening witching hour for cats, we set up on one of my favorite wing dams to use up some crawlers. Just minutes after pitching in my first crawler hanging off a small circle hook weighted down with 1/4oz lead we put a 16.5” eye in the boat. Thinking to myself I had breakfast for Saturday morning when getting home from a Flathead trip we have planned for Friday night the eye went into the live well. After getting set back up and fishing it was time to get a picture before the eye started to loose color. So the story goes, from the river to the live well back into the river When I took the eye from the live well she went wild and was out of my hands in the blink of an eye Oh well, Bacon and eggs it is.

As far as drifting for Channel cats we had a few hits but no cats to the boat. This pig of a sheepie did make things interesting for one of the drifts. I had no time to react to the hit, this fish was hooked up on a circle hook after inhaling a cut sucker before my brain had time to register (left myself open here) that there was a fish on. I love dancing with big fish regardless of speicies

As a note of safety, if you are fishing pool 8 at night stay alert. The gas prices have not effected the boating economy in the La Crosse area There is some big stuff out there throwing some good sized rollers, so make sure to keep your in the boat!
Mike C and I were also surprised at the number of boats (large and small) with out proper lights, and some with no lights at all. That is just not cool.

Be safe and good luck fishing people. Find a good wing dam and have at it, you will catch fish

For sure, a juggler you are not Bret. I wish I could have gotten a picture of that quick release and the expression on your face. Look out Pool 8 catfish on Friday night.
Like Bret said, be safe out there – have fun – catch fish
