as far as I know turnover does NOT happen in the rivers…. it occurs in lakes as surface temps cool to temps lower than the water closer to the bottom… this colder water is denser than the warmer water and it sinks, thus causing “turnover”…. in a river system the movement of water causes mixing to an extent where temps changes are constant throughout the water column; then you dont have much of a temp gradient from top to bottom…. and therefore no “turnover” occurs…..
still the affect of turnover in lakes generally scatters fish for a period of time until they can establish a cold water pattern…. and THIS does occur in the river…. as the temps gradually cool the fish occuppy a wider variety of patterns…. then when it seems when it hits somewhere in the 40’s they have pretty much established a cold water pattern and are generally more predictable at least as to their location…. if not their mood…..
