Always carry an extra hat in the boat on hot summer days of fishing. About 8:45 Sun. am while running from one spot to another spot while fishing a Walleye Searchers tournament my EFN hat flew off my head [2nd. one I’ve lost this way] and of course it was lost. Well, since I don’t have alot of hair on top anymore, guess whose scalp is now beat red and sore. Yep, fried that little pea size brain right up. You would think I’d learn the last time, but didn’t. At least the time before was on the way to the weigh in at the last tournament. Guess I have to stop remembering I have ”Smooth Moves” seat mounts in my boat and start slowing down. Hopefully you may learn from my experiences. Thanks, Bill

It takes a big “mountain man” to admit he uses lipstick. Sorry, couldn’t resist Lawrence. I too am a huge fan of the sunblock.

I keep a couple of those big bandanas in my pfd pocket they don’t cost much and can be used for a wide variety of things, including a cover for my head ( which I’ve learned sun burns in about two nano seconds and then hurts a bunch). and you get to look like a pirate for a little while

Being the fare skninned beauty that I am,
I always have to submurge myself in the thermal nuc block, aka babys 50 block before I hit the water! A back covered in 2nd degree burns, caused by the sun, took care of me once and for all.
Avoid the Number 1 cause of skin cancer. Use that sun block! carry extra in the boat

One other option is to get a top for your boat. I just bought a new Sylvan last fall and it came with a top. I never thought much about it but we used it about a month ago on Lake Pepin and what a difference. After fishing for three days in the wind and sun I usually can just barely make it back to Chicago without passing out from exhaustion. This time when we got back I was still fresh.
The top also keeps the rain and spray off of you, nice in cold weather. The only problem with them is that my left foot got burned from being in the center where the sun shines through

Another note, THANK YOU to all of the people on FTR. Our fishing trip was great because I finally used all of your advise andit paid off. This is the BEST web site on the planet!!

Bill, I go no where with out my sunscreen! The Coppertone “Sport” is the best there is as it doesn’t run into your eyes . I got burn’t on top for the first time swimming last year, my kids weren’t kidding when they said I’m going bald ! Coppertone “Sport” even comes in a spray that might work for a replacement hat

A big time thumbs-up from me on that Coppertone Sport! Awesome stuf. Makes that greasy junk absolutely intolerable and it blocks the sun better than a sheet of plywood.

I’ll 3rd the Coppertone Sport. By far the best I’ve used.

Thanks Guys. I put sun screen on first thing in the am when on the water. But didn’t put any on top of my head until about half way done fishing. Hey Ecnook, any hats with Mississippi River on them? The top idea has been given some thought and might happen someday. Some of the meds I take say no long sun exposer but I say they will have to pry to fishing rod from my dead hands. If you can’t enjoy what you love then theres no use being alive. So one of these days you may see me with a new hat and either a top or one of those embrellas that I’ve seen on a couple of Pro Vs the last couple times out. That should be worth a few good laughs and cheer some guys up hey! Oh well, a fishermans gotta do what hes gotta do and I gotta do stay on the water. Thanks, Bill

I see your problem… You need a slower boat, I really don’t have any problems with hats in my boat
