Need some work done on my motor (93 Johnson 175), and I was wondering what dealers/mechanics people have had good or bad experiences with?

Right behind subway in Lake CityI have brought the boat to a number of places and it definitly ran best after he had it!!
Sorry but I cant think of the name
July 7, 2003 at 11:14 pm #270086You should call Danny Kearns at the ace hardware store in Bay City WI. His work is second to none.
Bassn DanPosts: 977July 8, 2003 at 6:15 pm #270144A friend told me that Chuck Zonick(sp) that used to work at Midland Marine in Dresbach had started a marine engine service in La Cresent. Chuck does great work and is experienced with both Mercury and OMC engines – sorry I don’t know a phone number or the spelling of his last name.
Anyone out there that can help us out with a name or phone number?
Thanks.
Dan
July 9, 2003 at 3:34 am #270186Dan Kern at the Bay City hardware is in my oppinion the best marine mechanic in west central Wisconsin!! He probably won’t like me saying this, cause he is already so busy he hardly gets to sleep at night. But I would recomend him to anyone.

July 9, 2003 at 9:44 pm #270259I know I’ll NEVER take my rig back to the “big” Mercury dealer in LaCrosse. Took my rig there to get it winterized a couple years ago. I asked the guy to check the waterpump because I thought I sucked up a bunch of sand, etc. They called and said it was done. I thought something was funny because I parked it in a odd spot when I dropped it off and it was in the exact same spot when I picked it up. The guy seemed flustered when he looked for the paperwork. I asked him how the waterpump looked, and he seemed a little puzzled, then snapped to and said “Oh, it looked fine, with a nice strong stream when we ran it.” When I got home I looked at their checklist and noticed things like the batterires were not disconnected, and the clincher was the road spray on the lower unit. The day I took it there it was rainy and the lower unit was spattered with road grime. The day I brought it back it was dry out, but I noticed the same road splash was there from the trip there. I then called then expressing my concern and after a long wait he said to bring it back, because it wasn;t worked on. Hmmm, he did tell me straight faced that he checked the waterpump the first time. Well, they did the winterization and said they changed the upper unit oil (4 stk) as a courtesy. Problem is, it didn’t need that because it only had 10 hours on the motor, and after being lied to once, I don’t believe they did that either. He acted like they really did me a big favor and I’d better not be mad about the first slip up.
I was actually OK with the boat getting missed. I know [censored] happens. I AM NOT OK WITH BEING LIED TO!!!
Anyway, I have a long memory for being straight faced lied lied to.
I’m also looking for a good and TRUSTWORTHY Mercury shop in the LaCrosse/Winona area. I’ll even go much farther for honest people.

July 12, 2003 at 1:23 pm #270494Holmen PAWN ,GUN & MARINE have always solved my problems quickly from before we were sponsored by them.
Don’t let the name fool you they are a big player and move a bunch of boats for Crestliner and others. They have a good sized full time factory trained staff. To be fair over the years Team Marine has always been a good place for motor repairs , too. LawrencepbitschuraPosts: 162
