hey, does anybody out there bowfish around the La Crosse area? If so, would you be able to tell me a spot or two where perhaps I could go. Even if you don’t bowfish, and just know some good shalow water carp shooting spots, let me know. I started last year during mid summer just getting some feeding carp, but now am getting ready for the spawn. I not 100% sure on any good spots. Please help me out.

The stump field on Lake Onalaska has some hogs swimming around in there in the spring. Also all those bays south of the dike. If ya put in below the dike on french island and head right and go around the point you will be in carp heaven. When I lived down there those were a few of the spots I used to hit. But any shallow bay will hold carp down in goose during spawn. Good luck and go kill a few, This will be the first year I won’t get to do it. No carp around here that I have seen yet Pm me if ya have any questions or want a few more spots.
April 5, 2007 at 11:00 am #557330The East end of Lake Neshonoc. Nice clear lake and submarine size carp. Go get em There is also a carp tourney there every year and any method is allowed. They just want to get rid of as many as they can. Not sure when the tourney is but will find out if you are interested!
April 5, 2007 at 12:30 pm #557361Before you hit any inland waters, check to see when the season opens. Bowfishing inland waters is treated the same as fishing with hook and line. The river system is open year round.
If you have a small lightweight boat, you can bowfish in the small ponds at Myrick Park, but only after the regular opener. There are some nice carp and buffalo in there. I shot my biggest buffalo in there that went 34# and had a 34″ girthApril 13, 2007 at 7:52 pm #560513Bowfishing does not open on boundry waters till April 21st. Do a search for spearing and netting regulations on the WI DNR web site. PM me if you have any questions.
April 13, 2007 at 11:52 pm #560588Sucker, are you sure of that date? I thought I read it was April 28th for border waters? MN DNR Regulations page.

Rough fish is open year round on Inland Waters
Actually, it isn’t when it comes to bowfishing They keep the season closed on Inland Waters to protect spawning gamefish from being accidently shot. We were told from a Warden quite a few years ago while bowfishing Myrick Park. You have to wait until the regular hook and line season is openApril 14, 2007 at 4:31 pm #560747I just re read it and WI DNR has it as the closest saturday to april 21st.
April 15, 2007 at 3:06 am #560825That’s interesting, I too just went and read the MN regulations again and it states April 28 2007-March 2 2008. This is for Spearing, Archery, and Dip netting of rough fish. For the MN-WI border waters of the Mississippi River. You would think the two states would get on the same page?? But they had different openers for duck season for a couple years so I guess I’m not all that surprised.
April 15, 2007 at 1:05 pm #560874My bad I checked the hook line regulations and rough fish is open year round So after reading this I look again and check the description of rough fish and noticed it states to check the Spearing and Netting regulations to many regulations I guess for this dude to keep track of Hope I didn’t confuse anyone one more than myself, and thanks for the clarification guys
I better just stick to walleyes and cats and keep my trap shut
