Just how soon?

Anyone have a handle or prediction on just how soon we should expect the 8+ inches of rain that fell last night in the St. Cloud area to make it’s way down stream??? Pepin Specifically?

Maybe someone can relate this to past experiences or situations similar to last night.

    Thanks all!

    Hey Jim,

I don’t know about the St Cloud water, but the Gully Gusher we had here in St Paul all of last night will be down there by Saturday for sure!

The water clarity had fallen off dramatically from 6-25 AM through 6-25 PM @ 5PM when I was last at Everts Resort. The water had risen noticeably as well with some debris present. Water color looked like rusty-milky tea and will be getting much worse.

Figures. I’m on a good walleye bite and an incredible smallie bite and the water’s gonna jump hard and change it all. We caught the heck out of the 3 Lb bass today and had 3 nice smallies aver 4 Lbs in 2 hours of fishing… including one that was well over 5 Lbs & over 21″ long.

    Here today… gone tomorrow.

I’m guiding tomorrow and will post a report regarding river conditions. Do plan on major changes though. The river stage was set to hit 9’+ in Red Wing… and that was before last night’s drench. Plain and simple, it’s gonna get high, dirty and fast. My wingdam bite just went bye-bye.

    Thanks James,

I plan on an evening on Pepin today. I guess I’ll see how it plays out.
Nice smallmouth by the way!! That must have been a real battle!!!

I can only assume it fought well. My customer, Dan Diggins from Lake City, caught it. For a couple hours we caught big bass like there was no tomorrow. Fun stuff.

Here’s your pool 4 river conditions report guys…

It looks bad. And getting worse. The high winds today really had things rolling. Water clarity in the river was poor at best. The water level is forecast to get high enough to lap at the footing for the retaining wall at Everts Resort. That is the retaining wall at the foot of all the trailers so even the road to the ramps should be covered.

There was some large floating debris to swerve around so be careful.

Any chance of doing that report again?!? I didn’t like that one, . Doesn’t sound good at all. Any idea when it is suppose to hit its high spot and then start dropping [provided no more rain]? Thanks, Bill

I’m expecting a hot bite near my fish cleaning station by next week. The rip-rap shorelines along some current breaks (fish shack) should hold some good fish! Hope I can joke about this next week when it crests. (Tuesday supposedly).

If memory serves me right……the water will be about a foot to a foot and a half higher than this picture. (Notice the nice rip-rap current break by the fish shack! )

This picture was taken back in May this spring

Hit Pepin last evening. Water was up a “little” and clarity remained good. However, we fished the MN side and enjoyed the rollercoaster ride with some VERY impressive waves!

We managed some walleye, one legal, a smallmouth, huge crappie and a mad fighten sheeper!

TIme to put on the waders!

I was out on the lake for a short time yesterday afternoon. The very top side was pretty stained but fishable. The area right around the Rush river was really clear, like normal, until you made it out in to the deeper water right above the Rush river. Must be where the current from the Isabella and main river run in to this area. I never made it down to the Pine creek area to check it out.

Fished pepin today with my girlfriend. This put a dampner on how much seachering I did, she is still pretty new to this walleye thing. She is damn good at bullheads, grew up fishing them. As far as fishig on pepin— Beautiful day for a boat ride Fishing real slow, we caught 6 small sauger and a few sheepies yuk ( sorry pup) Water is up and some small stuff floating out there. Always keep your eye’s open with high water. Saw some mayfly [shells]? so the hatch isn’t far off. Fishing stays slow like this and I’m going to have to find a JOB . Good luck out there and be careful

We were up by Park Rapids last week. We lucked out, all the rain stayed about 20 miles south of us.From Motley south all streams were over there banks. There were areas that had 6-9 inches of rain there. :doah All coming this way.
