With this warm weather the carp are starting to show up in the shollows. The last 4 days have just been unreal. Everyday I have totaled over 20 fish. Today 45 from 10 to 6. If you do bow fish please don’t throw them on the bank like the people I saw today do. Take them home and dispose of them. I take them to the buddys house and put them in his garden. I don’t know about you but I don’t like the smell of rotting fish when I’m on the water.

while walleye fishing out on pepin last week i saw herds of carp mouthing the surface all over the place. i’d say at least 50-60 huge carp all together in big groups . anyone know what makes them do this.

it was a pretty awsome sight to see. jsut wish i had my bow with me in the boat. oh well, next time.

Probably sucking slop off the soupy surface.
At least that’s what they do in Ia.

    Jake….
its kind of funny… but the carp LOVE to eat the cottonwood seeds that are floating white and fluffy on the surface… if you want to have a REAL fight… get a fly rod, with a white dry fly and toss it in their path… you will hook up one for sure….

The flyrod trick works during mayfly season too.

When you find them feeding from the surface, you throw out pieces of bread. They will start eating them, then you put a piece on your hook and throw it out there. Its alot of fun if you use a light crappie rod, alot of give and take with the drag set light .

Crap, carp (pun intended) are running and I’m just back from a week on Leech, a week of work and shoulder surgery next week. Oh well, unless someone wants to drop a couple off in Cottage Grove next week, I’ll smoke em up for a share. I’ll have time on my hands for a while after I get my head together. If not, no problem.

Shooting carp is as fun as fishing for me. I’ve only done it in smaller rivers and off bridges. Are they in the shallow back waters or where does a guy go to shoot some of these fish. I would like to try them on the big river but don’t know where to start.

They have been all over, Back waters with arrowheads have been the ticket lately. I have also been getting them in side channels with current. The are just sitting in the current around wood and weeds. You have to sneak up on them from behind or they see you. Just scout around if you see some stop if not move on. Good luck

Go to pool 9, head south past the powerplant @ lansing. From thee head to the rip rap island and get your john boat inside the little island. You better bring about 25 50 gallon barrels. There were so many in there the surface was alive with action. I could have probably walked across the small lake without getting my feet wet.
