Here is a quote from Pool 9 in the miss walleye section!!

    Quote:

    UPDATE on Genoa
The ramp is NOT plowed since the last few snowfalls and has 6″ or more of snow and ice underneath. The river is also only open from below the discharge and points south. Belgianbucktail and myself made the trip from Holmen this morning only to have to turn around and come right back. There is no way you could get down and back up the ramp right now. The open water that was there is all slush as well It is going to be awhile longer before it is fishable

    Moe,

I talked with a friend who is fishing the WAT just yesterday (Sunday) and he told me that the river is open now from the power plant up to the dam as well as downstream from the discharge. He said that he will be up there next weekend. I would imagine that the WAT boys will make sure the ramp is open by next weekend so everyone can get out and prefish.

Not trying to disagree, but if it is truely open from the power plant to the dam, that has to be the fastest ice out on record. When we were there on Saturday, it was solid ice from shore to shore. There was a little open right in front of the dam, but then it was solid all the way back to just above the landing. But, it was open below the landing for as far as you could see. I can see the ramp being open useable by now as well. With the warmer temps and sun it will knock the snow down in no time.
If it actually is open, that is a good thing and will make a shorter trip for many of us to get to open water

I fish the WAT and was down there on Sunday, still ice above the closing dame to the plant and with the cool temps, I would have to seriously doubt that it opened up in two days. I had heard it was open as well, but when I got down there on Sunday, Oh, it is still frozen shut..

I would suspect that with the 40-50 deg temps starting this weekend through next week it would be opened up. Parking Lot, A ton of snow in there to be plowed out though. We will see.

Only 14 entrys so far? $325 for a 1 day tourny now might be keeping some away. We are waiting till Friday to decide if we will fish or not.

    Later and good luck.

I will be on the water Friday and the weekend so I WILL LET YOU KNOW WHEN ICE IS OUT!

    Later

targaman fished Genoa today. He said the ramp is a little slick from the run-off, which is to be expected this time of year. He also said it is still iced up at the dam and you had to go south to fish. I wouldn’t be suprised to see the dam still iced up by the 18th. But, there is still plenty of good if not better fish south of the dam

I was wondering how far south of the landing the water is open? I plan on going on Saturday. Is it open to black hawk park?

Here is the latest I have heard. The river is open from the landing at Genoa almost to Lansing. There is one ramp open at Blackhawk as of this morning. This is from a reliable source

Yesterday afternoon the landing in Genoa was plugged with ice. Seen two guys bust there bunks while loading up after they pulled the boats out. Make sure the ice is out from under your boat when you load up. Both never knew the ice was under there. Little suprise when they unload next time.

Blackhawk was in good shape but packed. Not much room for moving around. That will change when all that snow melts today and tomorrow from around the parking lot.

Ice flow from up by the dam started making its way down river late in the day, doc enders. South wind was keeping most of it up near the dam though. Next couples days, be careful.

Fishing was slow for us. Dad lost a pretty good one next to the boat. I forgot the net, first time out with the big rig ad the net was still in the other boat. Lots of cats south of black hawk, I bet we had 20 yesterday. All nice 2-4lb eaters too.

Be back out Thursday, Friday, Saturday and then the WAT on Sunday.

    Good Luck

I have some free time in the afternoon Tuesday, is it worth a run down to Genoa. Will I have problems getting the boat in and out? Is there a lot of ice/debris in the water? Or should I make one last ice fishing run? Thanks for the info.

I did catch 7 fish, 5 sauger , 2 eyes. Fished for 3 hrs. kept 1 nice sauger. Tried plastic and minnow, but all fish came on sonar. good luck if ya get out.–John

A sonar is the original lure like the zip lure. They are steel with lead weight near the head. The can be cast or jigged. Used to be a very good lure.
