I’m not sure it I can discuss actual brands of lures but I’ll give it a try. Has anyone tried or used “Hot ‘N Tot” lures by Storm? I had a friend that just got back from a Canada fishing trip and he said these were the bomb. He said they out fished every other lure they tried. Is he trying to sell me the “New” lure of 2003 or do they actually work? Over the years I’ve bought so many gimic lures it would make you cry. Should I give this a try or focus my efforts on different types of plastics? Thanks guys and gals.

I could not tell you about the 2003 models but I have a few older ones that work great for me. as with every thing else in the right situation they are perfect but not for everything. I have been using them on the front of wingdams with some success.
    Good luck

Hot-n-tots were the big craze in the late 90’s after some big successes on the great lakes. I know for 1-2 years they were on everybodies rods on Lake Pepin during the summer months. The craze has long disappeared on Pepin. When we used them, they worked great. I still have a couple dozen that I try once in a while. Problem with them is in trying to run 3-4 lines on Pepin. The really move around alot and too much time was spent untangling. I think the new designs are better than the old and should be in your bag of tricks, especially in the heat of summer.

The “Tots” are not a gimmick. You should have a few in the box. I also like them on wing dams and trolled when the water temp gets over 60.

I don’t however like the 2003 models. (Actually, I think they were re-designed in 01 or 02)They went to a plastic lip. I personally liked the old style metal lip. That metal lip gave off a unique flash that I am certain triggered more bites than the new style.

Get a few and give them a try.

Ill go with the YES on these…. they have a different action than most of the things the fish see… most cranks have a real “tight” wiggle… the tots have a real wide one… some what reminicent of the old lazy ike and flat fish…. there are times they WANT that wide wobble…. and as mentioned those times are often during the heat of summer…..

I know a guy who fishes tournys with his brother. They have been searching bait shops and the net for all the metal lipped tots they can find. At last count they had around 300 and still buying. I guess they like em.
