Any of you folks used these reels? I’m a die hard Penn reel user and needing to replace a couple of reels, but, man, they are pricey! Been looking around for reviews or info but haven’t found any, so, thought it might be worth asking here.

    Thank ya

If it’s prices that drag you down, keep an eye on the eBay activity. Great deals on brand new products can be found often for half of retail. The less popular the item you desire, the better the deal to be found, cuz there’s less bidders.

Example: $250 Fenwick Techna AV rods, brand new for as low as $55.00! I have a couple of these and one is even lighter than the St. Croix Legend Elites!

How about 6BB muskie casters (Spidercast SCP900’s) that retailed for $150.00 for $78.00?

I bought a brand new Penn PeerLess 109 for $20.00!

The deals are out there, just be patient and search once or twice a week!

The Penn Prion is made by Ryobi. I have a couple of the same reels which were marketed as the Cabelas “Platinum ZX.” ($170.00 reels) The ZX’s have a better handle and an extra spool bearing that the Prion doesn’t have, but they are both top quality reels. Go over to Bass Fishing Home Page “Rods and Reels” and do a search on the Prion and Platinum ZX. Try this link:

I think the ZX has been discontinued but Cabelas does have a Platinum ZX/HML rod combo for sale for 149.00. That is a super deal because seperately they would total about $290.00 plus shipping.

Never thought about checking Ebay. Check there once in awhile looking at the antique fishing items, and, for the old green and white Zebco Cardinals. But, am loading their page now.

    Appreciate suggestions and info.

I bought a Vertex the other day for $32.00 at B-M bait very nice reel for the money…it’s like a deadbolt…
