Trolling Braided Line vs. Leadcore w/Braid leader

I see quite a few people recommending Spider Wire for trolling. A couple of weeks ago I asked about using leadcore. Some used leadcore with a braided 6-25ft leader.
Hardly anyone used segmented leadcore with mono.
I’d like to know, if you are using 100% Braided line and trolling that way, or is leadcore still a primary use?

Under what circumstances would you use 100% braided line, vs leadcore with braided leader?
    thanks,

sounds like a good question.. as for me Ive taken to using superlines and clip on weights.. I can vary the amount of weight easily and with the rods I have can handle up to 6 oz weights.. which means I dont have to have out over 100′ of line to get down to nearly 30’…. so for me its just easier.. and the line is more durable and I dont need as big a reel…. I only have one lead core rod left and dont use it much….

When I troll shallow or want to keep the lures away from the boat I use fire line.

But when I want to fish breaks or deeper water I use leadcore, you have alot more control. You dont have nearly as much line out so you can bring your lure up and put it back down alot faster, saves me alot of lures from the snags.

I used to be a lead core freak but over the last couple years I’ve used it less and less to the point I no longer carry my lead core rods with me anymore. The reason? Too many well designed plugs out their to reach just about any depth range I want to get to. Is lead core a very valuable tool in some instances? Heck yes! Particularly in current when the fish are holding tight to the bottom. In this instance, it’s common for the lead core guys to out-catch the long liners.

Try the new stealth spider wire. You’ll love it. A tighter braid, much tigher than the product they had been producing the last year or so, and it’s even stronger than the original product. In my opinion, puts fireline to shame for trolling where durability, fine diameter and strength are key characteristics.

    Any other questions, just holler.

Just wondering what pound test are you using James?

    Hey Tony

6 Lb Diameter – 20 Lb test. The original Spider wire came in 6 Lb diamter – 30 Lb test strengths and this new stuff is MUCH harder to break when you do get a nasty snag. I quite impressed with both it’s overall strength and its improved handling. Again, with the cost running about the same as fireline with a huge increase in durability and overall break strength, why buy the fireline?!
