I want to fish the river near St Paul this weekend. Looking for some good shore fishing spots easy to get to.
    Anyone got any ideas ?

There are easily accesible spots just about anywhere from the Ford dam on down to South St. Paul. All of the parks along the river have a good honey hole or two within them. Good Luck! I just might be doing the same thing at some point this weekend.

Hidden Falls Park. Several miles on walkable/fishable shoreline all the way down to the highway 5 bridge.

Fort Snelling. Take the walking path down to Pike Island and fish the confluence area where the Minnesota and Mississippi river meet.

The Lillydale boat access. Fishable shoreline both up and down stream from that access.

Navy Island. (Under the Wabasha Bridge – Downtown) Fish the downstream point area of the island.

The Public docks at Harriet Island.

Those are all off the top of my head. All have parking. Good Luck.

Its more of a walk, but the confluence of Minnehaha Creek and the Mississippi in Minneapolis is probably the place to go for a few walleyes after this precipitation.

I did try the Hariet Island area this morning. I started on Raspbery Island on the down river side. Then moved back over to the St Paul side and fished along the wall and under the Wabasha bridge.

I didnt even get a single nibble.

I did have fun trying to find some good spots to fish from.
Thanks for the help though. I will try the other spots maybe later this week.

Am I asking a stupid question when I ask, isn’t the river frozen over?

I hit the Harriet, Raspberry and Lambert’s area pretty hard last year and was disappointed. I will probably give it another go early in the season next spring, but that’s about it.

There is a old railroad bridge just upstream from Harriet that I am wondering if anyones has fished. Also, is it possible to fish in any of the Marina’s around Harriet?

The river is not frozen right now.

I have seen people fishing around that railroad bridge on the south/west shoreline during the spring.

There is a fishing area at the 494 landing where people seem to find success on a fairly regular basis from what I’ve seen and heard.
