Hitting the river on Friday. I have my ring worms and grubs…wondering if I should bring some minnies to compare results or just stay with the plastics?
I have dumped out many, many minnies in my recent trips to the river. Don’t need ’em.
Although, many bait retailers are hoping otherwise!

Stay with the plastics.try some large minnow type in shad color.weve been slaying them.
When I fish on the river, I bring a scoop of minnows just in case I don’t get bites on the plastics as a back up plan. You can always keep the minnows in the refridgerator when your done in a oversize minnow bucket. I would stick with the plastics and keep fishing them. Trust me they work!!!!

Old habits die hard… but the more I fish with plastics on the river, the more I wonder about the need to buy bait. Never say never, but… I’ve caught more and bigger fish this spring on plastics (and its not like I’ve been sacrificing numbers). And for whatever reason it seems the fish absolutely clobber the plastics, compared to often “picking” at live bait. Keep trying plastics. Building the confidence to not use bait may take some time. Then again, not-so-much time when your catching fish.
I’d use plastics, here is an example caught this on plastic…see attached
isnt it kewl how attached pix now come up in the post??
and really reefrunner… you are seriously holding that up as a reason to USE plastics?? Im thinking bout switching off of them after seeing that! the only thing stopping me is that monster buffalo that Mike Huppert caught on a jig/minnow!….. hmmmm which is worse…… decisions, decisions….
Yup pretty cool the way the pic just comes up…And that kitty was the little one I was looking for the one I had to break off during a walleye tourney last Sunday after fighting it for almost 10 mins finally just broke it off…I still want to catch that fish she was large….And I really like catching those flats on plastics cause they are a live bait fish…????!!!!
HI ReefRunner, nice CAT, would not have recognized you without your (bio) HAT on. I heard somewhere that an FTR member needs to wear at least their hat shot for their bio picture so they can be recognized more easily while on the water. I’ve been looking for the wrong hat all this time. Jack..
Hey Jack don’t worry I’ll have my bunny suit on all this week Easter is coming…gotta bait those rabbits for future hats………
Hey!
Hey!
Hey!
Hey!
Comparing a nice flat like that with a buffalo? Shame, shame, shame on you.
man… THAT goat was easy to get!… I was just having a bit of fun… truth to tell I would be happy to pull in any monster represenative of the order pices… be it in the family of ictaluridae or a catostomidae, or cyprinidae, polyodontidae, acipenseridae, centrachidae, percidae and esocidae……

Good one. I tell ya, there is some good humor around here some days.
ReefRunner, You had me on the floor with that one! for a split second I was thinking about buying live bait for this weekend. Not anymore. I don’t want anyone with a rabbit hat on laughing at me tomorrow!!!
