I have caught a number of nice walleyes fishing up close to the dam. I often try to line up with the sign stating No Fishing Beyond This Sign yet i have seen fisherman darn near anchor to the front of the dam or troll the pool disregarding the warning. Does the Water Patrol enforce these rules stringently? What is the consequence?

Regardless if there are patrols enforcing the rules “The Rules Are The Rules”! It’s more of an ethical issue for me. There are darn good reasons to stay away from that area.

    1. It’s more like fishing out of a bucket….not fun.
    2. In high water years, when you get a strong back current, you have a chance to get sucked up into the rollers…..good luck with that!

By the way, yes the sheriff and DNR will occasionally sit up there with binoculars take your boat numbers down and you will get a greeting card in the mail.

Hey from pst experience yes they do watch the line and from what i have heard and experienced the more quality fish often times come downstream anyways…..havent made it to the river this year though had to sell the boat since it got a little costy but hope to pick up a cheaper one or something soon miss the big river already and its April..lol but yes to answer they do wach the 300 ft line close and ofte pretty sneaky about it so it wouldnt be worth risking it in my eyes
