Anybody know if you can get on pool 5 yet from Mn. side? West Newton or what used to be Wilcox? I imagine West Newton would be tough to get out of as low as the river is.
    Thanks

The only access I know about, on Pool 5, on the Minnesota side is on the lower end of West Newton Chute. I think it is private and is really shallow. I may be wrong. The only place to put in on pool 5 is in Alma, cochrane and Buffalo City. Sorry I can’t help to much.

I think I blew it. I pretty sure what used to be Wilcox is on pool 4. West Newton does have a public landing with real nice ramp but it has got so shallow a boat of any size has a tough time getting out. I launched out of there last spring once and it was a fight getting out. Heard through the rumor mill there was work done in there last summer. Anybody know for sure?

there is a pool 5 ramp just below north of minnieska, i couldn’t tell you what the name of it is, but it is pretty shallow i think it is public, but there are vehicles there from time to time. It is on the minnesota side.

wilcox is on pool 4. has been and always will be. i hadn’t heard, did they change the name or something???

west newton has an excellent boat ramp that all size boats can put in at. they can’t get very far, but they can get in . the only boats that will be able to make it out to the main channel are very shallow running boats. anything bigger than a 18′ flat bottom might have some trouble, especially with the unusually low water for this time of year.

speaking of landings hard to get out of, Brecko’s landing on pool 4 is filling in very fast, not sure if you can even make it out of there this year, last year you had to get goin and planed out and then trim way up to fly over it, this year i am not quite sure if you want to try that, really filled in big time, just to let people know so they can expect that.

Thanks Jeff. Thats the same report I had heard. Its too bad because for years West Newton and Wilcox were good landings.
