Trout?

I took my father and son out on Pool 4 Sunday a.m. – Never the less, they both smoked me. I got one turtle, while they pulled in northern, bass, walleye, sauger, and trout.

Here’s my new marketing scheme: “old truck, old boat, older motor, poor electronics — I won’t catch anything so just fish on the other side of the boat”

Is it common to get trout here?

It’s not a real common occurrence… but it’s not rare either. Some big ‘ol browns get caught out of the big river each spring. Last year Steve Vick had a 25″ brownie off the dock at everts and Dustin had a 6 Lb beast down near hay creek.

How big were the trout you caught?

My father for some reason catches one each year while I’m in the boat. Maybe I’m not getting my jig to lay flat to catch one. J/K

Do they get washed out with high water or do they migrate to the river for some reason?

brown trout like a lot of fish continue to move down river as the water levels drop… and the trout streams get pretty low in the winter… but the river is nice and cold and big and full of food and even pretty clear… so the trout move in and live there for a while….. and when the water warms out of their comfort level they move back into their little trout streams… or maybe find springs that are to their comfort level……
they really should look out however… big predators just LOVE trout… so Im sure there are some happy Pike out there somewhere…. they are active in the same temp ranges as trout……
