Caught this from the Mighty Miss today! And thanks to JLBassin, who took the pics, I was able to put this big girl back alive. Hit a bass size white spinnerbait with 6 feet of line out. Just nudged it and stopped. I jigged it in front of her and she hammered it. I instantly hit my free spool and the fight was on. I grabbed my video camera and tried to video tape the fight but looks a little shakey. Hard to reel and tape at the same time. Line was in the big motor and trolling motor a couple times. Walked the fish over to JL and had him take some pics and then he helped me release her. Thanx again!! BTW…Nice smallies! That’s actually what I was trying to catch! Only 3 smallies for me, at ton of little snakes, one snake went 7lbs (that one went to my mom!) and one other 20″ muskie. No largies at all. Really windy out there. Made it reall tough to fish!

BTW..this is my biggest muskie. I can’t catch a muskie while muskie fishing. Has to be while bass fishing. Go figure??

Sweet fish! Was that caught from one of the metro pools? I know if you go up towards Little Falls area some nice Muskies come out of the Miss every year. Other areas of the Miss too. I think it gets rarer as you go downstream, however. I bet DeeZee gets into them every once in a while.

The Miss does not have a population to be considered a serious Muskie fishery. They are there but not in the numbers to count, more than any other place the Miss HAS to be CPR. Scary part is if the general public starts to think of it as Muskie water without catch and release, we may be kissin’ em good bye.

I have to disagree with this. It has a very good population of muskies, and it is way underfished. You don’t hear about many muskies caught on the Miss because guys either don’t talk about them or they don’t fish the river for them. Most if not all of the fish that I have seen from the Miss are caught on bass gear Go out there and fish with some legit muskie equiptment and I know that you will be surprised with what you find.

However I agree 100% about catch and release

And sorry guys about the death grip on her. Not the best way to support a big fish like this. I did take a pic of her being held with both hands but it didn’t come out as well this one did. And yes…DeeZee probably knows this fish well. cuz it came off of one of his spots. And the pool is somewhere south of Little Falls and north of Elk River. Threw that white spinnerbait alot but no more big muskies. Only that one other 20″ fish which is a good sign. Do they naturally reproduce there or are they stocked??? Anyway..thanx guys. Truely the fish of my lifetime…so far !

Reproduce or stocked? Muskies are in Winnie, Cass and Leech and the Miss goes right through them.

Nice fish Ken! How long was she?

    Bob,
I agree with you. There is a good population of muskies on certain pools of the upper Miss. Growing up right on the water we had the opportunity to see quite a few muskies in the days growing up. I see more muskies now days than we did even back then. Our family has had a couple fish over the 50″ class over the years growing up on the river.
