I ahve a question about sea foam. I know it is pretty well respected by many boaters for keeping fuel clean and stabilized. However, the can also recommends to use a little in the crank case to keep oil clean. I ahve a Yamaha 50 four-stroke. I position fish for hours at a time and wonder if it is a good idea to add some to my oil. I have never done that before and wanted to ask others first.

can’t hurt anything, it will do its magic and mostly evaporate, i would make sure to change the oil regularly if i were using it in the oil though

I personally believe those direction were written for auto application. The can says (or used to say) 1/3 can in the oil, 1/3 can in the gas and 1/3 can down the carb. You would do this on a running, warmed up engine. Let sit overnight and change the oil. The idea is that it would work out the sludge in the crankcase and break up carbon in the carbs and clean out the fuel lines.

I only use Seafoam in boat gas. I use Ring Free to clean out the carbs on a boat and change the oil regularly on my 4-stroke kicker.

The only thing I use sea foam on is my gas for the boat motor.Ive got a 99 merc 75 with more hours than I can count. One time per month with a can,and it runs great.Keep the oil changed often, you should be fine………
