Just got off the water and I think my outboard deserves a tuneup. Its starting to run a little rough at idle after I put new plugs in so I believe it is time. I’m looking for a reliable and honest place to have it looked at preferably in Lacrosse or Winona possibly Eau Claire. Any recommendations would be appreciated since I’ve never needed it serviced in the past.

    Hey Lunker,

A guy I have gone to is really reasonable and does great work.

    Jackie Boettcher in Winona/goodview.

He is just an older guy doing it out of his garage. If you need his phone number email me private and I will get it for you.

    Good Luck

Every time my motor starts running a bit rough I put a couple cans of Sea Foam through the gas and it runs good again for several months. I have been doing this for 8 years on the same engine and have not yet had a tune up – although I replaced the spark plugs after 6 years and they didn’t even need it.

Anywhere as long as you go to Fleet Farm!! They always have dozens of cans on the shelf in the automotive section. I use a can at every fillup.

I have purchased Sea Foam from an automotive store also. It may be a bit more fun going to Fleet Farm because you never know when you will find other “good” deals.

What’s the idea behind Sea Foam? Does it clean out the carb, gas line or what? Just interested. I had a mechanical bypass as a kid and, as a result, like any product that keeps me from having to tinker under the hood so to speak. Leaves more time for fishing.

bigdog, I think it works as a carb cleaner, but if you read the can, you can put in your tranny, oil, 2 cycle, 4 cycle, cheerios…..lol….My 69 Johnson was running puny, dumped 4 oz in 6 gals and runs like a charm. I use on lawnmowers and chain saw as well. I think really helps 2 cyc engs…….I can get at Oreillys auto, but about 2 bucks cheaper at fleet.

Seafoam is awesome, i use it on my stinky old Merc 2 stroke and it keeps it running clean and quiet. I usually run a can through it about every 5 tanks. You can get it at most marine or automotive joints.
