Want to get an idea of what brand of mono line everyone would fish with if there were no superlines on the market?

I’ve always had good luck with Trilene myself. Are there better makes of line out there? I tried some of the new Rapala product and was disappointed.

I`ve always been a Stren man myself. As a matter of fact, I use the gold Stren for fishing wingdams and other casting presentations beacause if you can`t see your line, you`re fishin’ blind. And beleive me, the fish don`t mind it. Beav

I have always been a Stren man as well. I’ve tried trilene and didn’t care for it at all. I usually stick to the orginal clear/blue flourosent or the Lo-vis green both work well for me when I’m not using fireline

If your going with mono I recommend Trilene XT. Im not sure if they make a high vis version of it though.

Trilene also has an XL version that breaks too easily.

Ive tried stren and didnt like it. It seemed like I had to run to the other end of the boat just to get a good hook set because of its stretch and coils up too much in my opinion. One thing is for sure though mono has its place in terms of presentation because of line diameter and bouancy especially when casting jigs but I tend to stick with the superlines because the positives seem to out weigh the negatives. Mono can also be a good option in some trolling presentations because of its stretch and helps avoid ripping hooks through the fish’s mouth.

Thanks for the input. I think I’ll pick a spool of Stren Gold and Trilene XT and compare. I just can’t seem to warm up to the superlines. Guess I’ll stay with what I like. Mono -Man

    SteveO,

I know you’ve already made a choice but I have to plant this bug anyway! :O)

I tried a couple spools of Stren Sensor (6 and 12lb.) soon after learning about line quality and was very pleased. The memory wasn’t bad, did seem tougher/stronger, and I had better hooksets than what hougie describes (lol). I have to say, for some applications, it’s still my favorite mono, but I’m still experimenting with mono.

I just bought my first spool of Trilene XT so I can’t really say anything there…………..but I do like Trilene XL for it’s casting characteristics. Spool that onto your (or anyone elses) spinning reel or spincast and you’ll cast very well. Hougie’s correct about the breakage…………..it’s to be used only in circumstances low in abrasive factors.

I’ve also used Sensithin but it seems closer to the XL in it’s properties.

I’m still waiting to try out a spool of Trilene Tournament in orange, Spiderwire clear mono, and Trilene XT in lo-vis green.

Hey Beav, what color do you use at night? :O)

Since I’m fishing a river next week maybe I’ll eliminate the XT.

The Sensor sounds interesting though. Kid, you ever use the Remington mono? I’ve got some wrapped on my ‘Croix (8 lb) and that will be my first weapon of choice for the smallie/walleyes.

Here muskie muskie muskie…. Man, I can’t wait. 1 day on the flowage and 3 floating the underfished Flambeau River.

I’ve found the Cabela’s Pro Line to be an excellent line on a par with the Stren & Triline products at a much more attractive price. I can’t remember the last time I had a fish break off.

Nope, never tried the Remington. Sensor is good stuff, I wouldn’t lie……………you know where to find me! LOL! Remington is from Stren so you just might be fine there. If I had more info, I’d let it out but my experimenting is conducted at a leisurely pace……………you know……………whenever! I’ll let you know somewhere down the line if I find anything better than Sensor.

6lb Stren Hi vis for jigging, 10#xt for trolling, I used to use fireline for casting wing dams, but have used 10# Xt for about 5 monthes now. Lawrence

I like the NEW Berkley “Sensation” line.

    Tough—limp—strong knots—Low stretch—very strong—high tensile strength—LOW memory.

I generally have to change the line on my spinning reels often— just before I do some serious fishing.

Most lines have so much memory, that I have to change, and put on fresh line, just before going fishing.

I use so much line, that I buy line in 4 thru 14lb in bulk, including the 1lb spools.

I’ve had this new Sensation line spooled on two of my spinning reels, 6 & 8 lb, now for three weeks, and it still is straight, or has almost NO coil.

    I’m impressed.

    Silver thread is a great line . Try P*LINE xx-trastrong I found

this line to have less memory 6lb is my favorite 8lb has more

memory but is unbreakable . This line is very tough and is

very sensitive and castable. Use polymer knots.

I used to like the Triline XT “Solar,” which was Triline’s version of a super high visibility mono. It was tough and had great handling qualities. I agree with the others here on the Triline XL, WAY too wimpy.
