I know amongst all you river rats there have to be some duck/goose hunters. I’m new to this area would like to chit chat about the upcoming season a little. Where can I hunt on the Miss, close to Red Wing???? If your into whistling wings, lets talk at the get-together. I’m not above trading some great pheasant hunting for an equal fowl hunt……

But this fall I am definaltly going to get me and the dog out and explore….. what could be finer than shooting ducks in the moring fishing walleye after that and them wacking some more ducks///// I live 7 minutes from the backchannel launch in wisconsin so if any one is interested In wacking some ducks give me a holler….I have a 20 foot jon boat that has plenty of room……..

unfortunately I am not a duck hunter but I would love to talk you about pheasant hunting. I have a 5 year old German Shorthair Pointer, she is a awesome bird dog and rock solid on point. I love to pheasant hunt but do not have a lot of places to go, so if anyone has good pheasant hunting land I’ve got the dog!Steve
<<<Life is Fishing, the rest is just details!>>>August 21, 2001 at 3:44 am #232881I’ve duck hunted Gores Pool Wildlife Management area several times. This area is generally located between the Vermillion River and the Mississippi River starting a few miles south of Hastings and running down to a few miles north of the nuclear power plant. I’ve parked my boat in the main channel at about mile 806 and hiked in to the sloughs and back water lakes. It’s quite a bit of work, especially in the darkness, but the opening weekend generally has a lot of woodies around. You can also lauch in North Lake but I’m not sure how much of that water is deep enough to run a boat in. I’d suggest you buy a Public Recreation Information Map (PRIM) for the South Metro Area which shows this WMA. They cost about $5. You can get them from the MN DNR or I think Gander Mountain might also have them. Note: If you park on the main channel be careful that your boat isn’t swamped by cruiser wakes. I generally anchor the boat out in a few feet of water and point the bow towards the channel. Also, some of shore has submerged bank protection (i.e. rip rap) so be care when approaching the shore.
