Knot tying question

    Since I got kicked out of the Boy Scouts many years ago I am at a loss for knot tying expertise. I am going to put braided line on my reels for trolling and from what I have heard I should use a little bit of backing. OK fine, but how do I tie the braided line to the backing line?? I had a friend once who talked about something called a nail knot but I didn’t pay attention . Any advice?
