Thought you might enjoy a little update from out west on the Mighty Columbia. Just pulled off after 16 days on the river. Big fish were 1- 29” 3- 30”, 2- 31”, down a little from last year’s trip. Average day was 2-4 fish from 18-24”.

Water temp is high at 69.5 and the current is very, very slow, we are short on water on here. About half the fish came on plugs the other half on spinners and night crawlers.

Do appreciate those updates from out west! No offense to anybody here, I love the home turf, but the thought of mountainous bluffs and banks with great river fishing is always a nice breath of freah air! 16 days? Man that sounds FUN!!!! :O)

interesting…… temp was HIGH and still below 70!…. like fishing the great lakes or something….. now they need to sneak some northerns into there….. they REALLY like to eat trout and salmon…. and would grow huge! (so whats the problem? who needs trout and salmon if you can have GOOD fish!)

Any big white sturgeon caught there recently?

Strugeon are always going out here it seems until the dead of winter. Most of the river is closed for keepers until Oct 15th. It is still allowed to catch and release throughout the river. The over size 10 -15 foot fish are about ready to go from what I hear. I don’t fish for them but occasionally a sturgeon will pick up my crawler on the spinner, and oh boy depending on size it is off to the races.

Last year we got into an oversized fish that we couldn’t move at all. When it wanted to go, it went and we followed or be spooled. We followed it around for about 30 mintues and then a barge coming downstream ended the fun.

Usual bait is shad (ocean run type about 2lbs) or sand scrimp and barbless hooks. There was an article about a guy how has build a slingshot device on the front of his truck to propel the wieght about 200 ft out. quite a process and invention!
