I WAS PLANNING ON PURCHASING A FRS RADIO. WAS CURIOUS IF ANYONE HAS USED THESE IN AN AREA WHERE THERE ARE LOTS OF ISLANDS. MANUFACTURER CLAIMS A TWO MILE RADIUS. ANY INPUT WOULD BE APPRECIATED. THANKS

Ireland Antennas makes antennas that more than double the output and recieption of handneld marine radios, and marine mounted antennas on boats. And they may make a replacement antenna for the radio you are mentioning, that may give you more distance. They are from Miami, Florida. I do not have the address or phone, sorry. LOL

I have a couple of the motorola frs cobra two way radios that I use for coyote hunting and fishing. For the money they are not a bad unit. The range sometimes varies but I would say they average about two miles. They are not quite as nice as the marine radios but the are cheaper.

I have a set of the Cobra FRS radios that we use when we’re out in multiple boats fishing/skiing. They work great. I don’t know the exact range, but when we were up at Leech this spring, we were able to talk between my boat in Agency Bay and a buddy’s boat who was fishing up by Walker narrows. That has to be at least 2 miles, pretty flat, with trees in the way.
