Just wondering if anyone knows the size of the yoy shad,or yoy sheepies?

I saw the white bass after some minnows but I think they were less than

2 inches long.I was wondering has any one put out a minnow trap or seined any bait. I was thinking some 3 inch long perch would be very good bait for those eye’s that don’t like to bite on anything I’m trolling.

It depends what state you’re fishing. I don’t believe MN or SD allow the use of game fish as bait. I was told at one time Iowa does. But I’ve always thought perch would make a great bait.

Oh No not another one of those depends on what state your fishing. I believe in Wisconsin you can use gamefish as bait at least perch if you include them in your daily bag limit. Don’t have 2.5 dozen with you because your panfish limit is 25? Where to catch a dozen little perch is the question. Also might be an issue with transporting them. A person would have to sein them right on the lake or in the backwater somewhere.

Didn’t we have this discussion on the old site about using perch, perch eyes for bait while ice fishing?? If it wasn’t here, I saw a very heated conversation about this topic a last winter. Personally what you do is your business as far as I’m concerned.

Quite a few years back there was a cable fishing show that featured Steve Fellegy. He was ice fishing and using perch eyes for bait which is illegal in Mn. This created a few headaches for Mr Fellegy and the show was not to be seen again.
