    Hey guys!

I’m fishing a tournament in Southern Illinois April 5th and will be picking up my new boat this week. I need to find somewhere to break in the boat prior to heading to IL. Any Ideas? I have very little river experience and have no idea where to go that I can open it up a little and have deeper safe water?

    Thanks in Advance

Steve, if you go to the Miss., you should have no problems as long as you stay in the channel which is marked well with the red and green cans. Just watch for the ice flows.

Which lake are you fishing? I lived in Southern Illinois for 7 years in the Carbondale Area. Just curious

    Tom,

The tournament is being held on Lake Shelbyville. I can’t wait!

    Herb,

    Where should I launch?

Come on down to Everts Resort – Pool 4 this weekend. I’ll be watching the place for Steve Vick and I’ll point you in the right driection which would be in the opposite direction of the navigational hazards! Might even be able to get you in to some fish if you have time to chase walleyes and I’ve got a couple spots that a guy can almost always go catch a few nice pike… even this time of year.

Hey Steve, Welcome to the FTR World, the ”other” side of FTL. Like James says pool 4 would be a good place to break in the motor. Just stay in the middle between the red and green bouy markers on the ”main” channel and you will be ok. Talkin maybe 60 degrees this weekend. Thanks, Bill

    Steve,

Only fished Shelbyville once so I can’t help you with the launch. Carbondale is another 3 hours south. Thought you might be fishing Kinicade in Murphysboro for Musky. There were reports of guys picking up nice ones up while bass fishing
    Good Luck.

Someone explain to me this fishing in March thing!

I’ll be at the resort all weekend and I’ll be happy to point you to a couple spots that typically run amuck with the gators this time of year. Brings big plastics or any of your other cold water techniques… maybe even dead bait on quick strike rigs.
