I have heard a lot about the “new” batteries, specifically one called an “Evertroll” supposed to be spill proof, has it’s own charger, and runs up to three times as long as a wet cell battery…I checked their web site to find a local dealer, and saw the posted suggested retail price at $599.00 could they really be worth that? Does anyone have any experience with those…it’s time to replace my old battery and I am just lookin’ around…Thanks

    Denny,

It would be a cold day in [censored] before I spend $600 bucks on a battery!!

I’m super happy with the set I’m running now. They are the brand the Wall-Mart sells. (forget the name) I’m running 2 group 27 series in a 24 volt set up. I’m half way through the second season with no signs of degradation. I fully expect to get 3 full seasons before I even start to think replacement.

At $55 bucks a piece thats $110 for three years. A set of those $600 batteries would need to last almost eleven years. NO WAY!!

Bass and Walleye boats magazine did a story on batteries a few issues back. Lots of good info if you can get a copy. There are only a handfull of manufactures out there. The company that makes the Wall-Mart brand was very highly rated.

I have no experience with the evertroll..However I’m using the dry spiral cells called Optima @ 170.00 per I have a 36 volt system with a Guest PRO 2631 @ 289.00 So far more than satisfied with the system I have never worn it out three days of fishing without recharge, and that’s hard river fishing.. but you can do the math it’s not cheap to stay on the water these days.. What I like I have plenty of power I don’t have to try and see in the cells for water level..no acid spills and like I said so far so good…I suppose I just jinxed myself…..The Opitma I would buy again…

I run the wal-mart batteries also. Never had a problem, and can’t imagine going through 12 of them (approximate price equivalent to one evertroll).

I suppose if you can talk evertroll into sponsoring you, they would give you a set for free. That’s about the only way that I can imagine 1/2 of the stuff for sale out there ever gets used!

I’ve got an AC Delco deep cycle marine battery and have had great luck with it. I have been using it for at least 5 years(can’t remember for sure how long) but it has always held a charge.

I use to make marine & auto batteries for GNB. (Wal-Mart carries them) The killer for all batteries is vibration. If you can dampen the shock from all the pounding you will extend the life of any battery. Batteries are made with two plates, a positive & negative plate. The plates carry lead oxide. Vibration causes the lead oxide to fall off the plates and then you loose the effectiveness of the battery. All the guys at work would place a piece of foam under them and make sure they are strapped in. LOL

I’m also running OPTIMA Batteries. They have a lot of outstanding features including long life, light weight, fast recharge, and outstanding durability. They feature a totally sealed, spill proof design and you never have to check water levels, or worry about bad connections due to terminal corrosion. I think they are a great battery for tough applications like up in the bow of a boat where batteries must be able to take a pounding or anywhere else where access is limited. They cost a little more but in my experience OPTIMA’s are worth every penny. JC
