Here are a couple of Gators that came from the Missouri River,Great Falls Montana. John Ramstead has sent them in to us. The weight on these toothy critters went 18.3lbs & 17.5lbs.

What did you catch these on John ? What time of year were you fishing ? Are these common on this body of water ?

If anyone else has a photo or two they’d like to share with us here at FTR,
simply send the photo out as a .jpg attachment in an e-mail to
[email protected] and we’ll gladly get that posted here just as
    quickly as we can.

This day was Feb 18, 2003 on the Missouri River about 50 miles below Great Falls< Montana . The river eventually dumps into Fort Peck. I caught the two pike on 8# test Stren Lo Vis Green Original, 1/8 th ounce jig , small twister and sucker minnow. We actually were fishing an iceledge up against the bank and we had just boated 4 walleyes when the big pike hit. We caught 8 eyes that day 3 northerns and 2 sturgeon. The fishing was so good I thought I had died and went to heaven or at least what it was like to be there yesterday as the old saying goes . The neat part was I wasn't using steel leader as we weren't actually fishing for pike.

hi John, nice Northerns. if you were down from Great Falls, that must be opposite direction from the Holter Dam, hope I spelled that right. In the early 70’s spent a total of 12 weeks in that area while in the military. Busted many nice Trout in the lake above the Holter Dam, that WAS a very good time. that fishery still holding up. Jack..

    Jack,
The whirling disease hit the river. I haven’t fished much for trout since I discovered walleyes. The limit from Holter Dam down to the Dearborn is 1 fish {no typo} and you can’t keep
any browns. You’re right where I fish is about 100 miles down from Holter past 4 dams.
