Like Rivereyes said, I snuck out last Friday night but for good reason…………….I’s goin’ fishin’! All done blurbin’ and sassin’ off, it was time to once again put up or shut up. LOL!

I set off with a friend with intent to night fish on Lake Viola near Siren, WI (what’s left of it………….broke my heart!) but the rains just weren’t gonna let that be an option. So we set the alarms for 4:30am to hit the Yellow River, out of Little Yellow Lake. My estimate is that there is a minimum of 2 miles worth of river before you hit the dam.

No dinner, no breakfast, just a few cans of Diet Coke, we were the first ones on the water, and it was muskie time! We began running large bucktails on nickels and Tally Whackers. No muskie but the pike were alive! Low, cloudy sky, still misting, light breezes…………..perfect “comfort” weather seemed to indicate an all day bite.

Worked the lake(s) ’til almost 9am and decided to hit the river after a pike swam away with my new Buchertail bucktail!!! He was a good one but never made the net………………I’m not sure a lure in the mouth was his idea of a nice parting gift, but I did thank him for playing!

The river was a smorgasboard of large mouth and pike. Just when the drift was getting long………….BAMM!! Large and small from both species were brought to the boat and equally producing the action was a floating rap and a #5 Mepps dressed natural.

By 6pm, we were both tired and feeling completely famished so we ended the day a little sooner than normal. Back at the Yellow Lodge, questions were asked and stories were shared but our day on the river seemed to puzzle most everyone……………”didn’t know there was any good fishin’ in there ‘cept for a few hard to flush bass!”

Luck or skill……………. doesn’t matter. The time spent with a good friend, good weather, and the best report in the local lodge for the day, I’ll take those things anyway I can get them!

Muskie bite up there slowed with the cooling temps according to the locals but had been hot up to that point………………..I hear it’s supposed to be hot again this week……………..just might have to sneak off again! :o)

Are your fingers and eyes in sync with your head? How do you “help” me land a big fish by cutting the line? I gotta get a new trainer! I can’t work with this! Now, try on your pretty new white jacket with the fancy wrap around belts, it’s time to take YOU for a ride! LOL!
