    Senior Circuit

As long as we are working on everyones dreams, here is mine. Golf has the Seniors, so we need the same in tournament fishing. The name sake sponsor could be Geritol, others sponsors might be Depends, Polygrip, Ensure, AARP, Dones Little Liver Pills etc. We might need special rules such as mandatory naps, your name must be monogrammed on our shirt so we can remember who we are, and each boat must have a homing device so the tournament officials can round up all the guys who get lost. The motto could be; we may need Viagra to hold our rods up but we still can fish.

Oh well I guess I will have to wait 2 years . Only problem is I already have CRS , a pivotal overhang above the belt, and a bald landing strip on my head you could land planes on. Yup looks like I’m already to go when I hit the fifty mark. If I understood first place was a walker right ???

I am all in favor of setting up an” Old Fogies” touney for next fall, out of Evert’s. The “Freeze Your Butt off” is in the spring, so how would that work for everyone. Say, each boat has to have a team of at least one member over 55. Each team would be able to weigh 6 fish, with an entry fee of 25 bucks. Winning weight takes 50% , second place takes 20% , and third place takes 10% of the entries, with the other 20% going to the ARM Project. I would be help with the set-up, if a couple other elderly gentlemen would care to share in the project preparation. What do you think guys, it would be fun, plus it would help out some kids in the ARM project.

How about the combined age of the two partners being a minimum of a century (100 combined years)? Maybe a modest handicap could be given for those who have one & quarter century (125 combined years). It could be called the “Old Farts Tournament” or maybe we should have a contest to name the tournament; we could give a bottle of Geritol as a prize to the winner.

Could we schedule a naptime during the tournament? I can fish it, that is, if I can remember where I put my rod.

Forget the 55 years stuff as I’m only 50 and Hoggies only 51. My kid, ya Nate, is standing here complaining that it should only be one person over 50 as both over 50 means a tournament he can’t fish in. He also says that someone under 50 has to drive and contol the boat as we are too old to be driving. Personally, I say both over 50 and the rest of the rules sound good and Nate can sit on shore and watch us old farts catch fish! Thanks, Bill

You mean I have to make another Banner. How about the FTR Geritol Classic? (Has a nice Ring to it). The kids can sit on shore and cheer us on with Pomp Pomps! Walkers, wheel chairs and canes will be available. The idea of 20% to ARM is an excellent idea. Maybe one of the entry fees could be a lure or something for fishing for the Kids.

I am interested in putting something together, how about someone else. I can get to Steve at Evert’s and check for open dates if we think this will fly. Give me a private if you are interested in planning something here.

Hec with the pm, I’m not afraid to be an old fart! Sounds good to me. Lets get this going and get the details on the board. Now if I can remember what we were talking about. How about the latter part of August, not too cold for us old timers. Any ideas? Thanks, Bill [ I think ]

How about making it a Charity for ARM annual tournament with plaques given to the winners and a bottle of Geritol [sp] and the rest of the money going to ARM so there will always be younger fisherman to make sure this tournament never dies out. lol. What do you think? Thanks, Bill

    OK, how about this:

    2 person teams
1 team member has to be over 50 years old(young)
    $25 registration fee per boat
    Start time 0700 ending @ 1500 hours
Headquartered at Evert’s for weigh in
Trophys for the first three places, and the rest goes to ARM.

    How about something like that….

What happened to both over 50? Where did the old farts go? Kids need something to look forward to in their old age or its the pits growing old. I’m open to whatever the rest want to do. Keep it simple, we can shorten the fishing time some and have a potluck too if we want. Whats everyone think? Thanks, Bill

I’m with you two old farts per boat is best. It will be great entertainment for the non tourney anglers on the river.

    “Old Fart’s Tournament”

More suggestions to think about for the activities of the day:

    Place:

Colvill Park – So the old geezers fishing the bottom of Lake Pepin won’t have to motor in the boat too far

    Date:

    June/July/August/Sept (the warmer months)

    Age:

Both partners must be at least 50 years old

    Entry Fee:

$20 (this tournament is for pride & bragging rights, not for the bucks)

    Payout:

    ARM (25% of money)

1st Place (35% of money minus price of 2 plaques)

2nd Place (25% of money minus price of 2 plaques)

3rd Place (15% of money minus price of 2 plaques)

    Hours:

7:30 AM – 2:30 PM (only 7 hours as we need our rest)

    2:30 PM – 3:00 PM (weigh–in)

3:00 PM – 6:00 PM (visitation for the survivors, food, & party time)

What about the Old Duffers in the Twin Cities area. I still think Evert’s is the way to go. What do you think Mr Vick.

There are tons of tournaments to win money in so lets go with the plaques for 1,2,3, places and rest to ARM to help out the ”future” of our sport while us old guys are having fun ourselves. Hours and schedule sound good that way everyone has time to tell about the big ones that got away. Still like the 25.00 as its more money for ARM and Plaques and its only 12.50 per person. Location will need to be decided on. Everts has 4 ramps and parking and Colvill has 2 ramps and parking. Its easier to get a permit in Wisconsin as not as many tournaments or maybe people want to keep their fish? How many guys are interested [ I realize more will be once word gets out as us old guys need some excitement in our lives, lol. ]. Thanks, Bill

    Well…

…you know I have “CRS” and will need to have to have a slight handicap for the tournament… (CRS is that mental condition… where a person has no recall… stands for cannot remember schmidt ).
    But I am game…!!
I’ll never forget the words my old dad told me… he said “Son, never go at a thing 1/2 way”… no, I think it was… “Son allways go for 1/2 the way”… well, anyway .
    Let’s do her up.

    Hay Guy s

I started this as a spoof but I like the way it s going. You will let a bass guy in this won t you? I think we should keep it simple and use the money for a good cause such as ARM. Don t know how many people will fish this but keep in mind an entry fee greater than $20.00 is one of the criteria requiring a MN tournament permit. The other would be a field larger than 15 boats. If we go out of WI it shouldn t be problem. Let s go for it and send frequent reminders!

I have nothing against launching at Everts and think it is a top-notch place. Although, in the summer months many of us will be fishing the “Head of the Lake” or Lake Pepin itself. If we have a dry year the back channel could be too low for most boats to navigate. That means the extra 6 miles from Colvill to Everts will need to be traveled on the main channel which has two no wake zones. If you consider the extra time to travel both ways (12 miles + 4 no wake zones), it could take about 45+ minutes away from our fishing time by going out of Everts. We could also donate the money saved on ramp fees to ARM.

I would favor Everts if we can’t get a MN permit (if needed) for Colvill, or it’s the intension of the fishermen is to stay overnight at Everts. This old geezers body is way past the party stage in life but I know some geezers who like to consume quantities of sprits while partying into the late night — I am sure they would much rather be on private land and I don’t want to be a spoil sport for those guys.

Maybe those of us who plan on fishing it should take a vote on the location.
