Hidden Falls

Recent discussion of the Ford dam and upper pool 2 caused me to check the dam and Hidden Falls ramp this afternoon. There’s ice from the tip of the island covering just about all of the slack water. The channel is open, that’s all. The ramp has ice out about 30 feet into the river and it has not been driven on since it snowed. I can’t say from experience whether the dam are will open up soon- being out of the current I would guss it’ll take some consistent warmer weather.

Thanks for the update here Big Northern. Usually it does not take too much to clear up the area up by the dam with the amount of water that passes by this area. I would expect that by the weekend the ramp here would be in pretty good shape.

I always wondered….can they open the lock when there is ice build up in the slack water area and bust up all the ice and send it downriver? Or does the surrounding ice prevent the lock from working?

Who do we call or send cash to to get that to happen? That would be very convenient!
