Hoggie,
Why wait until the get together to tell that story? I’m just a little curious how a fish weighs 15 lbs, with 16 lbs of goose in it! C’mon, let us hear (read) it!
RiverRunt,
How dare you uwe me to get to the “dork” prizes? Ah-hem! My good people, I ask you……………of all the prizes a “pup” can win, how many does the pup keep? That’s right…………..NONE! All trophies and winnings to the “master”………………..tsk, tsk, tsk. Your selfish ways have found a new low…………………….mmmm………….time to eat yet?
LOL….
was wondering when the PUP would come back!… you know how he is… slipped the leash and quickly got out of range of the shock collar on Friday…. he sure is a wiley PUP….. and dang sneaky too…… so now he finally shows back up!! with his ears and tail draging.. (or is that dragon?)……..
dont worry I will stop at DQ or somewhere they give PUPs doggy treats… so he will be taken care of!!
LOL
Mom tells me (because I was way too young to remember) about the time when all the Hoggard-clan had had a big “Texas sized” day of Bass fishing on Lake Whitney. One at a time, the stories seemed to get bigger and better as my dad and each of his brothers told of that days fishing events, around the campfire at our family-reunion (as the telling of fish-tales went around, so did the jug). The stories came round till it became my turn to talk of the days fishing. In my cute little six year old voice, I stood up and told everyone quite sincerely how I had caught a 15 pound catfish with a 16 pound goose in it! Well, this got the attention of everybody. I went on to tell that when we first weighed the fish, it weighed 16 pounds! And that when we cut it open, I said “We tooked a big old goose out from inside”. “Then the fish weighed 15 pounds!”, I said.
My Uncle Russ was quick to tell me that the math shows that the goose weighed one pound. I said “uh-huh, and you should have seen that sucker… that old goose was this big” as I streched out my arms as far as they could go, to show that the goose was THIS huge! This got a big laugh from the bunch and lots of praise for years to come for telling the biggest fish story ever. The best of all Hoggard fish tales, for that day …. I had not even caught a catfish!
My math has improved quiet a bit, but the fish lies, um… I mean stories, have not!
“Hoggie” Hoggard
Hoggie:
My wife is a writer. Writers don’t call stories like that lies, or tall tales or even fish stories. They refer to them as “Memoirs”. Thanks for sharing your memoir with us.
As a father of “memoir” telling children, that story really tickled the funny bone! LOL! Thanks for humbly sharing that piece of history! :O)
Thats a pretty good story, good thing you were just a little guy, you might not have gotten away with it otherwise, bit it sure showed a lot of ambition!
Say, before this gets forgotten, this entire thread became a bi-tangible excursion to anywhere but an answer to the original question. FTR Staff……………is it possible to get an answer of some sort? I can’t help but think there may be a few others with the same question. :O)
Sorry about the lack of a reply… the original question DID get lost in the following story!
Heck yeah, anyone can bring a prize to donate to the cause! Nothing’s too big or too small. We’re expecting quite a few younger particpants so we’d love to see somethign available for nearly each younger fisher-person. If you plan on donating something, simply let me know ahead of time and then jus tsimply bring it along with you on Aug 25th. No need to mail it out or anything like that.
Good question Hoggie. I thank you for your willingness to help out with the prizes!

Do we need to have a partner or can we solo it if there isn’t anyone to go with.
Solo… with a partner…. its all good. If you have two children and can’t decide which one gets to stay home… don’t! Bring them both with. I’ll personally give a wedgie to anyone who tries to make an issue of a 3 person team vs. a 2 person team… for this event anyway.
Its all for fun and our little tournament is the perfect opportunity to introduce children or inexperienced anglers to fishing for fun with a dash of healthy competition thrown in on the side.
We hope to see you there!

I’d like to volunteer RiverEyes for the Wedgy Machine!! LOL! Having permission to go solo, I can get his shock collar out of range and if he don’t like it, James has got a wedgy waitin’ for him!!! :O) This deal just gets better…………..and better……………and better…………LOL! Maybe I could invent the “Wedgy Harness” for our other outings as well?? Hmmm……………….can you feel the love? YANK!!! :O) Gotta get to work on this one……………….25th is only 23 days away! LOL!
Still might need a partner willing to take a small river boy in their boat!!!
good thing PUPs are good swimmers! still swimming and fishing at the same time cant be THAT easy…. but guess you WILL keep kewl…. hopefully I wont accidently run over you, might dent my prop… but then all that blood in the water could trigger a feeding frenzy….. hmmmmmmmmmm, plus….. it gives me a legitimate chance to hook something REALLY big…..
lets see……..
Yeah… James…. this here big and ugly fish… its ummmm…. its a….. well…. its a RiverSquid!! thats what it is…… I should get not just a prize…. but a medal for removing something so unpalatable from the water!!!!
LOL
Rivereyes, sounds like a riversquid might be a distant relative of a dogfish? FUn fight, but quickly removed and released!!!!
