I’m looking for an accurate hand held scale to keep in my boat, I don’t care if it’s digital or not, as long as it’s accurate. I haven’t tried it, but I like the style of the rapala scale that comes in the kit with the hook remover and fillet knife. what scale have you guys found to be the best?

Nate and I have the Berkley one and really like it. It sells for around 30.00 and fits in the tackle box real nice. Thanks, Bill

The Normark and Berkley digital scales are both quality scales that should provide years of service. I have had the Berkley for several years. No problems. I have friends with the Normark and they are also satisfied customers.

To answer the question, “What is the most accurate hand held scale?” Just comparing these two scales, the Normark is more accurate. Here is why:

The Berkley scale measures in 1/10th of a pound. For instance, a reading of 2.5 equals 2 and ½ pounds.

The Normark measures in pounds and ounces. For instance a reading of 2.8 equals 2 and ½ pounds.

Given the fact that the Normark breaks a pound down into 16 units (or ounces) and the Berkley only breaks a pound into 10 units (or 10ths of a pound) the Normark is clearly “More Accurate”.

When you first purchase one of the scales, test it right away. Take a couple of pounds of meat out of the freezer and compare the weight of the meat on the label to the weight on the scale. If it is off by more than one percent, exchange it for a new one.

I have the Berkley scale. after a couple of years, it quit working, I called Berkley and they sent me a free replacement. I have compared weights at the grocery store with their cerified scales, and even tho it does read in tenths, on tests I’ve made it has always been withing one tenth of right on accurate. when I gets cold it is NOT even close, so I’d recommend in the more mild temp ranges, If you leave it in the boat during winter, it will not give you a useable reading. I have used the Berkley scale for years… and been very happy with it. I do not “baby” it… in fact to the contrary. I abuse it on a regular basis! It can realy take a beating and the cold…. and keeps on right on tickin!

I’ve had very good luck with the Berkley scale, no problems at all. I had a Stren scale that did’nt make through one season though. So I’ll stick with the Berkley.
