Anybody else catch Tony Dean outdoors today? They were hammering smallies by the dam in minneapolis on the mississippi. It was quite a change from what I’ve seen Tony doing in the past. He was with a local bass fishing guide. They also caught sheephead and catfish. Some of the smallies were even over 15 inches long.

I did not see today’s episode yet, but I do have it di-vo’d. Last week’s episode was a pretty good one with him fishing trout streams in SW Wisconsin.

He doesn’t have the most exciting show on TV but I appreciate the time he puts into explaining worthy conservation issues. I like that the aim of his show is not to put trophies in the boat, but to share information with the average person on how to keep the waters healthy for future generations of anglers.

I also like catching his show because he does a lot of filming on Lake Oahe which is where I grew up fishing with my dad and brothers.

That “local fishing guide” was Tom Zenenko. He was one of the top local writers and fish seminar speakers back in the 80’s. Since then he has been affiliated with Vexilar/Salmo lures at Motor Clinic in Bloomington.

Tony Dean is a class act.

Saw the show. Fishing right in downtown Minneapolis. Can’t wait to get back over there.

I missed that episode, but today he was fishing smallies on Roy Lake South Dakota in November. They caught a couple that went 5# on 5-7″ chubs and no-snag sinkers. Awesome! Not another boat on the lake, either! Somebody said Tony Dean doesn’t have the most exciting show, and that may be true, but what I love about his show is he “gets it done” on lakes that the average joe like myself can get to, plus a nicer more humble guy you will not meet!

I saw the show today too. Those were some pigs they were getting on Roy. It would be fun to go out to northeast SD in the fall and be the only out. November can produce some big smallies on the croix and missippi around here too.

Tony Dean’s show has always been one of my favorites. Mellow and down to earth. He often mixes in some waterfowl or bird hunting. The other day I had to change the channel when Mike Iconelli when on one of his screaming fits. Makes me sick. I’ll take Tony Dean any day.

Gotta wonder if Ike started out that way or if he was coaxed into it. I think perhaps he had one screaming fit and B.A.S.S. liked it. We have to remember that ESPN stated they would make bass fishing as big as NASCAR and I believe they are playing the public on DRAMA. I have enough drama in my life so I feel no need to watch reality shows or current B.A.S.S. tourneys. Jay Yelas is a hero to me, he quit B.A.S.S tourneys because they were encouraging/coaching the anglers to be more dramatic. He is now fishing FLW. I can handle Ike, but not an entire field of Ikes. He certainly is an individual. You can see it too, just watch a tourney, they are all doing touchdown screams and dances in the boat. I have done this on rare occassion also, but only when I catch a huge fish or am having an acceptional day. Not just because I catch a keeper. I guess that I am not Ted Nugent style.

I believe B.A.S.S went down hill the moment espn bought them.
I know alot of guys like Ike but to tell ya the truth if he was in my boat and went into one of his screaming jags the man would be treading water real fast.
I dont think it will be to many yrs and the Bass classic will be small time compared to the FLW. Either way it turns out the next few yrs will be interesting.

I have talked to Tony several times at fishing show he is very down to earth and pleasant to talk to. I cant help but wonder how many fish he eats if you watch him fish walleyes he seems to save a lot “for the pan” nothing wrong but makes me laugh. Check out his website some good things there also.
