I need a place to fix the skag(sp?) for my motor. I don’t really want to tell you how it happened, let’s just say I’m not the sharpest tool in the woodshed some days.

I figure with all the river rats on this site many of you have dinged your motors out there. The skag is bent a little and missing about a chunck about 3″x4″. What to do??

Don’t feel too bad. I left a nice chunk on Hubs boat ramp as I was pulling the boat out of the water two days ago. Live and learn.

I’m really disappointed in myself for not thinking mostly. I guess some of the best/hardest lessons learned are when they cost you.

I have a chunk out of the back end of mine, not the bottom. My mechanic said not to worry about it, and I haven’t had it fixed. Been that way for a couple of years. Now the deep scars in the fiberglass are another matter.

What size and brand motor are we talking waterfowler? I lost most all of my skag a couple years back fishin the Rock River down here in Illinois. Treacherous river, but lots of fish!

If it is too bad, and you have the right size motor, you should just send it to me and I’ll see if I can put what is left of it to some good use. My motor is getting tired I think!!!! LOL

    Rooster,

I was so mad at myself the other night I would have boxed it up and delivered it to you. You know it was the boats fault for being too long to fit in the garage with the motor up???? I could pick up those raps when I’m dropping off the motor, heh!!! LOL Good one.

Hey Waterfowler… your skag isn’t all that bad and we didn’t go sideways down the river when you opened it up… Why don’t you put a note on the tongue of the trailer to remind you to raise the motor!! LOL!! I know…. I know… my day is coming!! I just couldn’t resist!

I’ll trade ya 25 of my shiny new raps AND my old Merc for your damaged motor! (as long as it is not older than my Merc!)

May even throw in the boxes for the raps. Some of them are old enough they may be collectable!

    Rooster,

Although the deal sounds very good, I’m gonna pass this time and wait til I grind a little more of the skag down. I’m gonna paint “RAISE THE MOTOR” on the garage door so I won’t have this problem in the future.

I just put a nick in mine last week, got two boats, one with 60 Johnson and one with a 150 Merc. Forgot which boat I was pulling and drug the Merc a little hard through a big dip in the road. Stuff happens then ya fish!!!!!
