Ran 18 tip-ups for 3 hours Saturday afternoon in a backwater area south of La Crosse. 6 people, drilled 30 plus holes searching for a bite. Had 8 releases no fish, must not have this tip-up fishing technique for hooking releases down pat yet. Fished water depth from 6 to 12 foot looking for the “right” spot. Glad to have power augers, the ice was from 14-22 inches thick. Some of the people we were with had earlier fished the area around Schafer’s landing north of La Crosse, with little success. Must have been just a no-fish day for us.

Hoosier, I think it must have been a slow weekend all around. I was out both days jigging for crappies and didn’t see a flag from other fisherman either day despite alot of tip-ups set out. Maybe some up-coming warmer weather will heat them up.

Same people, minus me, tried the tip-up thing again, Sunday, same time 2 pm, different place, different results. 3 northerns 5-8 lbs., in 2 1/2 hours. Figures, the saying no pain no gain rings clear.
