Fishing in the backwaters of pool #3

    Hello fisherman,
In a couple of months my wife and I are moving to Hastings. I could really use some advice for accessing the backwaters around Pool #3. I usually fish 2-3 times per week and like to go after pike or largemounth bass. I hear about people getting into the backwaters of the mississippi and catching 15#-20# pike. That would be a dream come true. Does anyone have any suggestions on where a newcomer could find bass or northern fishing. Thanks ahead of time.

Who’s Chris Tuckner? Thanks, It will sure be nice being five minutes from the old miss, even though I’m currently river fishing illiterate.

Yep… Tucks the man. If you’d really like to get to know the rivers and backwaters, I’d suggest hiring him as a guide. I did that on Pool 2 with Steve Dezurik. Great experience, and you learn A LOT. Good money spent.
I have taken Tuck’s advice, and started fishing the backwaters this winter. I personally love the river!

There are quite a few good backwater spots around Hastings. The Vermillion River has some pretty good areas as does North Lake. From Hastings Pool 4 and Red Wing aren’t very far either, then there is the St. Croix and —well, you get the idea.
