Hey everyone, I need your help planning a honeymoon getaway for a week in July. I’m looking for a cabin at a resort in Minnesota. Possibly Brainerd lakes area….North Shore area…..or anywhere “up north” really. My fiance and I are planning a tropical trip to Hawaii this next winter, as her schooling won’t allow for a long trip this summer. Soooo we are looking for a reasonable and quiet resort to spend 4-5 days at. I looked at Grandview on Gull…..Gunflint on the North shore….but they’re expensive and I want to save that $$$$ for Hawaii. Does anyone have any ideas of economic, yet nice resorts too check out. Places that you have first hand knowledge of????? I tried, but she just wasn’t too excited about Everts Resort….all she says is “been there, done that!” haha. Anyway, any input would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

    Steve,
Sandy Beach resort on Gull Lake is nice. The cabins are very nice and the price is decent, $90.00 – $125.00 per night. I spent a week there two years ago and really enjoyed it. The Walleye fishing will be slow in July, but Gull offers some good Bass and Northern fishing. Thier number is 218-963-4458.

Steve, the Brainerd Lakes Area will be just great in July. There are a host of fine resorts in the area. Some of them very large like Maddens, Craguns, Grandview, etc. Others smaller and more intimate.

Breezy Point Resort has it all. Small enough to be friendly, but large enough to offer what ever you need. Besides it is on Pelican Lake, which is chock full of nice ‘eyes. Call’em at 1-800-432-3777.

Need a custom rod to take her fishing with? We can fix you up!

One place to check out is Bayview on Lake Vermilion. The cabins are nice-but not ritzy by any means. The nice part is the restaurant and bar at the resort gets a good crowd, is nice and the food in the separate restaurant is very good.

Fishing is great in mid summer. The water temps only get into the 60s to low 70s, so the fish never really turn off. Also-I have caught walleyes up to 5lbs right off of their dock. Bayview is located on Big Bay which is big water scattered with lots of mid lake humps and reefs.

Vermilion is the largest lake just below the boundry waters. So you really get that up north feel.

I echo Sanbars post. I used to stay there for the opener. Gull is a blast, a VERY good walleye fishery as well! Very nice cabins for the price. I would go back there in a minute!

    Bass lake in Grand Rapids.
Its $50 a night per person. Quet and quality fishing. Lake Pokegama is a stones through and Bass Lake is out front. Good service and you will have less distractions so that you will be able to do what honeymooners are supposed to be doing. -grin-

Hi Steve. I Thougt maybe you could check out the trip swap forum. Swap a week at Everets for someones cabin. That way you have a place thats very private and doesn’t cost much. All we will have to do then is bribe whoever trades with you for the location then we can all come and visit. Steve

If you wouldn’t mind Northern Wi, there is a place in Brule called the Brule River classic and all they have are cabins, 5-7 in total. I have stayed there a couple times, it is a nice place very close to the Brule river and canoeing and trout fishing and not far from Superior either.
The owners have always been very friendly.

Hey while your up there this weekend you can check some out. Try Island lake Beach resort. I used ro stay there a long time ago. Its about twenty mile out of Duluth. Another one to try would be High Banks Resort on Fish Lake. There’s a lot of them within easy reach of Duluth. Steve

I’d recomend a trip across the state of WI to Washington Island in Door County. It is pretty shut down and secluded in winter. Ice fishing for Browns in the inlets and harbors is supposed to be fantastic, provided there is ice.
