Does anybody know where i could go abouts finding a gold shiny paint color for jigheads? I can find the powder paint but it isn’t as shiny as what i am looking for. I am looking for that really shiny metallic gold like they make fireballs out of. Any help suggestions would greatly be appreciated thankx.

    Jeff

In small quantities, most hobby craft stores will have both the gold and silver you’re looking for.

jeff, alot of the powder paints look dull at first, but after baking it the shine really comes out.I use gold flect over alot of colors and it looks great.I use a product called granite dust, after baking you can throw them to the sidewalk and they wont chip.good luck.

Try Air Traffic hobby store. Mall of America (952) 858-9599.
I believe there is also a store in Maplewood.

I don’t know how Lindy gets the gold onto the fireball jigs but I’m thinking it might be plated on? Anybody know? Reason I say this is that the hook is generally so thick it takes a lot of sharpening to get the stuff off and make the jig any good. Consistent with what James said, I have gotten shiny gold at the hobby stores here in town, those that sell kit cars, trains, etc. I also believe Netcraft sells it in small quantities.

There are a few places in the La Crosse area you may want to try out. First, there is the Ben Franklin on the south side. There is also a hobby store on the back side of Ben Franklin where I have bought paints to put on jigging raps. Lastly you can try the Hearts Desire store in Onalaska, next Chi Chi’s. I have tried to find paints like you require with little luck. They rarely turn out like the cap or color sample. I wanted a chrome color to fix my rat-l-traps that lost their finish. The chrome advertised was more like a matte silver. Best bet would be to go through the yellow pages and look up some hobby stores and call them and let them know what you are looking for. They may be able to help you out. I wish you luck in what you are looking for. I live in the La Crosse area and if you need any more help please feel free to send me a PM and I will see what I can do.
