I have been busy the last few weeks compiling information from the “Big Three” motor manufacturers on four stroke and DFI technology. I am doing product reviews on both, and should have all the info posted up here shortly. Some of the information WILL suprise you! A lot of people are making decisions now as to which power plant best fits their needs. I am sure that these articles will provide some very good and timely information!

Looking forward to those reviews Tuck. Everything new I learn about the DFI’s vs the big four strokes makes me want one of those big 4’s less and less.

Here is a little teaser for you, Johnson (4 stroke Johnson’s are now all made by Suzuki) has a 140 4 stroke EFI that weighs 410 pounds, and in full out tests matches the 135 Optimax in top end speed, and outperforms them in fuel economy. This is going to be an engine to watch in 2003! I will have warranty and technology info on all the motors in the review…

Anxious to hear/see your reports. I had a 70 Suzuki EFI 4 cylinder…awesome engine, economical, good power but that one at the time was a little heavy compared to a 2 stroke. Now, this 140 is lighter than my Yamaha 115 (2001 version at 418#).

Hey Tuck, does this motor come with the 7 year warranty that some of the other OMC motors have? Bombardier sure has done a nice job with these motors since they bought them. I’ve always been a Big Black fan, but the Johnson 4 strokes are turning my head.

Evinrude had a show special for that, and Johnson had a four year. It is my guess that the Johnson four-stroke line is going to turn a lot of heads this year.

Are all Johnson 4 strokers Suzuki’s?

Yep. They all come off the same production line in Brea California. The nice thing for Suzuki is they have the luxury of Johnson’s parts and service network.

Hey Tuck, did you happen to see the insert that came out with the latest Bass and Walleye Boats magazine. It was some interesting reading.

Does this mean that I can have my Suzuki 4 stroke 115HP winterized at a Johnson dealer like Al’s in Rochester? I have been pulling my rig from Rochester to Bloomington the last two years for this service. How about warranty work?

Any decent dealer can winterized any outboard. Nothing related to warrantee about it. Actually, anybody with a little bit of mechanical aptitude can winterize an outboard. Your owners manual covers it well I’m sure.

Fowler, I did not see it, what was it about? As far as warranty stuff, it is apparent to me that the two sides are trying to keep things separate. Johnson will be competing against Suzuki in the broader market, and Johnson is trying to recapture that niche they enjoyed for so many years. So, I think they are trying to keep the entities apart, yet both are touting the positives from their own perspectives. For us all, it’s a win/win situation! Those who know me know how nuts I was about my Suzuki kicker motor I had. It broke my heart to have to sell that boat, and put that black one on the back. No one was happier than me when Johnson came out with this motor. In my opinion (I know I will get a lot of guff from Dustin and James) but I think the Suzuki is smoother and quieter than the T8 Yamaha. I’ll let you all decide, it will be on the river a lot.

I’m not even going to touch this one I look forward to hearing you on your travels around the river..J/K!

I know you have always thought highly of the Suzuki you used to have and am looking forward to getting together for a day to do a little fishing along with seeing how the new motor perfoms for you.

My hairdryer is quieter than my T8 too, not much, but it isn’t worth a darn as a kicker motor. I’ll not carry that much further but you know what I’m getting at.

I always wondered what you were blowing in the water behind you! I took enough heat for that black critter on the back of my boat for all of us! I’m glad those days are behind me! Now I can sneak up on you and Dustin without you knowing it, unless Hook is in my boat!

That thing was bad. Sounded like a cement grinder! I know you thought I was paying my customers to heckle you but I wasn’t. Never, not once did I put them up to that…lol Those on the water conversations reminded my of those Sprint PCS commercials…. I’d say, “hey tuck, I’m getting them at 8 feet” and you’d hear “hey tuck, you hear the packers got beat?”

Tuck says…”I caught a nice bass over there!” My customers heard “I’m wearing my wife’s underwear!”

    Won’t miss that a bit.

I think it may be to blame for the tinitis problem in my left ear! Do you think I have a case?

I meant to grab it last night, but spaced it off. I’ll grab it this weekend and compile some main points from it in a private to you.
