Believe it or not, I’m the guy to talk to. YES! We have a design, a “go ahead” and they will be available at the FTR Get Together. At this point, there should be one for everyone’s boat. With our limited resources, this is what we can provide. See ya there!
BeaverPosts: 229July 21, 2001 at 3:23 pm #231846Maybe you guys should “pass the hat” at the get-together. I`m sure you could wrangle some tips out of everybody to help cover operating costs and things like the decals.
July 22, 2001 at 1:35 pm #231862If there is an extra for someone who desperately tried to make the get-together but got overridden by extenuating circumstances, let me know – I would love to have one.
July 22, 2001 at 5:38 pm #231864Sounds like alot of people want a sticker yet limited monies to purchase them. How much are they? For example if everyone just sent a couple bucks to James in appreciation of the site it would provide monies to get more made. No names given, just put a couple bucks in an envelope and mail it to him. He could get more made and then sell them for cost at the FTR Get Together. Just an idea.
BeaverPosts: 229July 23, 2001 at 3:20 pm #231878I don`t know if money changing hands is a good idea or not. I beleive that this is a non-profit organization, and that makes money changing hands a touchy issue. And to tell you the truth, I don`t think Steve and James would break even if we each stuck a thousand bucks in the pot. The cost of the stickers is minimal when you look at the big picture.
I don`t know if we could ever thank Steve and James enough for what they`ve done for all of us river rats, much less pay them for their services.
We all get to reap the rewards…..great web site, message board, staff reports, articles etc…….but it never costs any of us a cent.
Next time you log on, take a look at this site. It`s great, isn`t it? Well guess what, it didn`t just show up out of thin air one day. Somebody with a ton of computer knowlege had to sit down and make it all happen. Hours and hours of hard work just so we can talk fishing. And guess what, he wasn`t getting paid for it. He did it for the love of the sport. So the next time you`re visiting this site, maybe you could thank Hougie for making this thing a reality.
I`ve always felt that everybodys time is worth something, but the time that Steve and James put into this site is greatly unrewarded. How many of us would take time after our day at work to come home and sit down and update this site? Oh, we might handle it for a week or so….until our wives and kids drove us crazy, or until we got fed up and found better things to do. But these two guys have been doing it for years! And all for a paycheck with all zeros on it.
So even though the “pass the hat” thing came out of my mouth, we owe them for so much more than just a sticker or two. We owe them for up to date reports. We owe them for knowlege that we`ve accumulated that would have cost us hundreds if we got it from magazines. We owe them for having a place to post, and vent, and ask questions and actually have them answered.
How many of you are better anglers because of this site? If you answered no, you`re a liar. If you nodded yes, you owe Steve Hougom and James Holst a debt of gratitude.
If it weren`t for their hours of work without pay, you wouldn`t be reading my words of wisdom right now.
We should all take the time to thank both of them. BeaverJuly 23, 2001 at 3:27 pm #231880Guys, without stepping on anyone’s toes, we’re too late to do anything about the situation regarding the decals and what will be available for the Get Together. The order has already been placed and what’s done is done. However, we can organize a “mutual” effort to have more done at a later time.
Just hang tight guys, we’ll see to it that everyone gets taken care of, one way or another. :O) All suggestions are appreciated and thanks to those who are willing to help and participate in the efforts at hand.
AnonymousGuestPosts:July 23, 2001 at 3:46 pm #231883Thanks Beav. Without a doubt, Ive spent alot of time with this website, writing the asp code for all the pages including the field staff system, (that took about 7 months), moving the site to a new server and doing all the admin for that, and setting up this new board, not to mention all the other pages in this site. Were talkin 14 hours most days from August til April including my real job which I was laid off from in March. Because it needed to be done, regardless of the pay which is none. James pays for the hosting which can be quite spendy, and I do virtually all of the technical stuff to make sure FTR and FTL exist. I have no idea what the costs would be for stickers maybe James would, all i know is I want one!

DONOTDELETEPosts: 780July 23, 2001 at 3:59 pm #231886Beaver, you are right on there! Much thanks to the Steve and James…… and may they continue, live long and prosper!
Where we all can help is by making more fishermen awayre of FTR. Decals will sure help to acomplish that. I too, do not think passing the hat is needed.I think that I may know what might be appreciated…. I would guess that like many dot.com businesses the viewer or user at FTR is not paying the bills, it is the advertizing on the site that makes the rent payment each month. It would be great to send FTR some ad business. We all might know of someone who would like to do an add here. Tell your boss or your neighbor that has a business about FTR as a place to advertize.
I am wondering if there would be room to have a weekly sponsor in the corner of the main page that could pay for the space. No big commitment deal, just a week at a time. And not a big fee so some of the “little guys” could afford it. And on rotation so we are not looking at the same faces or slogans forever. I would not care if they sold “Twinkies” or “burgers & fries”. I would not mind seeing an ad or two on here if it helped the guys out with the bills.
What do you think? “Hoggie” HoggardAnonymousGuestPosts:July 23, 2001 at 4:07 pm #231889Now youre talking! I agree. I have the technology in place to rotate ads on all the pages just about anyway they want complete with statistics that any business can have access to in terms of clicks and views to see where there dollars are going.
