I fished below L/D#12 Saturday and was surprised by the poor water clarity,less then a foot.The water level has been stable and the river was frozen above the dam and within a mile or so below so I would imagine the pools upstream are ice covered,too,decreading wind as a facture(or am I wrong?).How’s water clarity upstream? Is there construction somewhere and these conditions are here to stay or is it temporary and I just picked a bad day? Thanks!

The lower pools have been making a lot of needle ice the last several days. That ice forms on the bottom of the river and floats to the top bringing with it some mud. That may be what’s muddying your water up there. It should get better with the warmer temps coming this week. Our water was quite muddy this weekend too.
Talked with a commercial fishing friend last nite, and he told me he’s had trouble with the needle ice on his hoop nets the last few days, but doubted that would muddy up the water like it is.
He didn’t know the cause either but, suggested it might be from all the walleye fishermen and their jigs and 3-way weights stirring up the bottom. LOL
