The landing by the power plant is iced shut. There is about 2 inches of ice out about 50 yards or more. It was almost all the way iced across the river there yesterday. There is about 50 yards left until it iced all the way over. I am not sure about belevidere. Also there is lots of big ice sheet coming down below the dam right now. The area above that dam is almost all froze. Hope that helps.
belvidre landing stays open the longest but I think once old man winter hits hard the only way to get out is by sliding a john boat over the ice……brrrrrrr
The river usually freezes up here especially when it is cold like it has been. The landing always freezes up. Usually you can get on from belvicere but you really have to watch the ice conditions. I know of many guys that have put in down there and then ran all the way up to the dam and then find out that ice broke apart down river and wouldn’t allow for a return back to Belvidere landing. I was one of those guys and know of at least 3 other guys that had it happen to them. When it is cold like this some guys will venture out bellow the dam on the ice. I think this is crazy but I have seen it done.
Thanks for telling us that, I certainly won’t be one to do the ice walk below the dam….no thank you. I knew the power plant landing froze over but did not know about the hjazards of the next one down. Also sounds pretty dangerous.
