My wife and I will be staying on the south end of Lake Pepin on October 11th and 12th and would like some information on where to fish. We will be staying at a condo in Wabasha. Is the lake still productive at this time of year or would we be better off trying to go to the northend of the lake? Crappies, smallies, or walleyes is what we will be targeting. Any info would be helpful.

I was up to the Wabasha area (lower pool 4) about 3 weeks ago and had good success casting crankbaits on the wingdams in lower pool 4. There are a few real good wingdams right at Wabasha. I think there was a thread a few days ago from someone who had also been hitting the walleyes on cranks in lower pool 4. We not only caught walleye casting crankbaits but also landed several nice smallmouth, largemouth, white bass and northerns. I did catch 3 walleye off of one dam but most of the time we would get one and move to the next dam. Jointed blue shap raps were the hot ticket. I did spend a few hours trolling in lower Pepin but all I caught were a couple small white bass and a little sauger. I would think that as long as the water stays warm the crankbait bite should continue. It seemed we would catch at least something off of just about every dam. I was holding the boat above the dam and casting down over and along in front of the dams.
