Since the closing of Minnehaha Bait(Just what this town needs, another coffee shop!) I have been unable to find a bait shop within the city limits on my way to Hidden Falls. I Know there is Hayes Tackle on Lake Street (Not Exacty friendly Territory for towing a boat) and the Bait Shop East of the Lilydale Access. Where else can a man get a couple scoops of fat heads?

    Where are you coming from???

I know there is 2 in Richfield only about 5-10 minutes from Hidden Falls. Katie from Minnehaha is one of them, I drove by it after going to Lunkers last spring but I could remember well enough to give you directions. Unless they closed the new location too. 1308 E 66th St, Richfield is Lunkers-I avoid them if possible.

DB Gipps (sp) has the best minnows that I have found in town-they are on Rice Street about 3-4 miles North of 94.

See, my problem is that I live in south minneapolis, 14min from garage to water. Minnehaha was so convenient. Now I have to put a bit more planning into those trips to the river. thanks for the insight! sealegs

I know a couple people that keep minnows in a 5 gallon pale so that they dont need to stop for bait each time. I think they keep for several weeks if kept cool. Also-oxygen packing will keep minnows for a couple days in the frigde.

Yeah, I’ve tried them all and typically I get the same result rigor mortis a la fat head! I guess the only way I’d be satisfied is if Minnehaha Coffee would sell me a scoop of fattys with my espresso. Fat chance, I hate esspresso!!

I don’t know if this will help But! There is a SPUR station on the corner of Old Shakopee and Old Cedar Ave that has live bait. My son uses it and I’ve noticed a lot of people coming out with bait.

The five gallon bucket idea is solid. I have been doing this for years, especially this time of the year. The cool weather allows keeping it in the garage. I usually buy 5 or 6 scoops at a time use what I need , and then keep the rest in a bucket with an aquarium pump plugged into the garage outlet. I keep minnows for up to 3 to 4 weeks, then buy a new batch. Yes, you do loose some, they do die, but it beats throwing them out after fishing, and then buying more when you want to fish the next time. Two buckets work best, fill both, especially if the water is city water. Use lake water in the first one, tap water in the other one, after about 3 days, change out the minnows into the clean city water, the chlorine is gone now (takes 48 hrs for it to disperse). Fill the lake water bucket with clean fresh city water, then keep rotating every 3 days. Saves money, gas, and most of all fishing time.
    good luck.
