Duck Hunting Opener

Well how did all you MN Duck Hunters do this weekend. Waiting for the WI opener this weekend. Just wondering if you scared them all over here. Can I expect a good time or are the birds down? I live across the river from Red Wing MN so if any of you guys were in the area I’d like a duck report.

i was down at the reno bottoms on opener. it was a pretty disapointing start to the duck season. there was an o.k. number of woodies around but it was worse than the last couple years. saw only one teal the whole time, they must have headed out on that first wave of cold weather.

i had a few friends that hunted weaver on sunday a they had no luck at all. they also saw just a few woodies.

there is a great site @ http://www.waterfowler.com that has tons of reports from every state. check it out. it’s pretty neat.

one final word of advice, if it doesn’t get any colder this week make sure to bring along some misquito spray. they were so incredibly thick that it was hard to shoot through them. i would suggest even wearing some kind of head net because the spray will keep the misqiutos from bitting but the knats are just as bad.

I hunted the opener down in IA the other weekend. Personally, I saw more birds than the last 2 years. Strangely enough, not many teal. Mostly Woodies and a few local mallards. Lots and lots of geese flying around. Hopefully, I will get a crack at one once I get back down there.

Let me tell you something Duck Hunting in MN sucks! I also went to IA for the early season shoot and we filled out on Mallards, Teal, and Woodys. I havent even bought a license yet, and its friday one week after the opener. I live by Redwing and its terrible to many sky busters. No ducks! I have been checking out pot hole after pot hole nothing. But the DNR will tell you its one of the best years ever. But again its not my advise is save your $ and Hunt elsewere. I’m not bashing MN, but the duck hunting here does suck. I was spoiled in eastern SD, it was a true waterfowler dream. Hunting ducks and geese over decoys is a true passion for me. I haven’t purchased a license yet in MN just because I don’t see the number of ducks, but I do see the number of hunters…..
